i have just watched thye C5 rear end crash on a zafira and it has worried me as dd1 sits in one of the boot seats. i have asked dh if we can change our car for something like a multipla whyen we can afford to, and he wonty even discuss it. have told him that dd1 is to sit in the front from now on unless no other option.

mind you, is the ront seat, with an airbag which cant be disabled, child on booster as about 7cm aways from bneing legl height, safer than those rear seats?

its a mobility car which we are signed for for another 2 years.

YANBU misdee..I saw the footage to and am dreading when I have to use the seat when DD3 arrives

pooka · 02/02/2009 19:34

We're also changing cars. Not just because of the footage, but that was a factor in choosing the Honda FR-V . Can fit 3 kids comfortably in car seats in second row. And if we have an additional adult, they can use the extra front seat.

Means can hold onto the boot. And less faff getting the seats ready for extra people. Plus I found that I was doing anything I could to avoid using the back seats in my verso, even putting dd in front, because using the back seats involved massive boot clearance (and I have things that live in the boot of my car).

FairLadyRantALot · 02/02/2009 20:10

oh, the Honda FR-V...is that the other car with 6 seats, 3 in frint, 3 in BACK, LIKE THE MULTIPLA, ooops caps, sorry!

as for multipla running costs....it is very economical for it's size.....and we have a petrol, but if we get another it will be a diesel. Insurance is also good, etc...

pooka · 02/02/2009 21:06

Yes- same layout as multipla.

MetalMummy · 02/02/2009 21:38

We have the Kia Sedona and it's great . If you look on the euro ncap website it tells you how well different cars do in crashes the 2003 Sedona only got 2 out of 5 stars for adult occupant protection but the 2006 Sedona got 4 stars.

MetalMummy · 02/02/2009 21:40

The 2001 Multipla did pretty bad in Ncap tests too, especially for the driver

Lilyloo · 02/02/2009 21:44

king canute did he not say 30% of crashes happen when a moving vehicle hits a stationary one in the clip ? (may be wrong so apologies if so)

Completely put me off 7 seater so watching this with interest!

KingCanuteIAm · 02/02/2009 22:08

yes, 30%, note there was no distinction between reversing out of a parking space into the car behind you and hitting some parked in a lay-by when you are doing 70mph. When you split it down a bit more the picture changes drastically.

Like I said, they are making a TV programme, you do have to listen to them but then go and find out the whole truth behind what they say.

Lies damned lies and statistics and all that jazz.

fledtoscotland · 02/02/2009 22:11

YANBU. we have a sedona as the three middle row seats are all individual seats so we have two car seats and elderly FIL all in their own seat. we have taken the two rear seats out so the two dogs have plenty of room when the double pram + shopping is in the boot.

having seen my friend cut free of a citroen picasso that crumpled around her and her DD, the sedona was the safe choice.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 03/02/2009 08:19

metalmummy they've redesigned it since then apparently.

FR-V nice but costly, sadly.
