To have assumed that baby clothes sizing is standardised...

Have just realised that the 9-12 month sized babygro's I bought at M&S and have washed ready to but on DS as he grows out of his 6-9 month ASDA babygro's are going to last him for about 2 minutes.

Why is it that an ASDA 6-9 month baby is up to 21lb, whereas a M&S 9-12 month baby is only up to 22lb? An ASDA 9-12 month baby is 24lb.

Obviously I should have checked but was so excited by the cute animals on the M&S babygro I didn't check the weight/height bit as well as the age bit on the packaging.

...IME adult clothes aren't so I've never expected baby ones to be...can you take the babygros back and swap for a larger size?

nope washed them. Ah well that's the last time I spoil DS with fancy-dan clothes from M&S. It's back to ASDA for us.

Adult clothes are supposed to be standardised though aren't they - although we know that some are cut more generously than others.....

I once had an interesting conversation with someone who used to work in the fashion business. She reckoned that children's sizes have never been standardized in the way adult sizes are (and even those are variable). Every shop has its own sizes. So you do need to get to know which to choose in each shop.

And yes, it's a PITA.

Is there anywhere on MN a table comparing the sizing in the main shops? Would be VERY handy....
