to want to go to the cinema in the day?

DH thinks it would be 'taking the piss' if I went to the cinema on Friday ( a work day!)to see Revolutionary Road.

He thinks I should be doing things 'around the house'

I should add that we have two school age DDs, I work half time, he's full time in similar job and I do the lion's share of the housework(which I don't mind).

He reckons most people would agree with him.

Well, do ya?

Does it take 5 days to do housework??? Surely you're allowed time to yourself?!

jkklpu · 27/01/2009 21:20

what planet is he on?
certainly don't agree with him - off you go on Friday and enjoy with a big bar of chocolate

fruitstick · 27/01/2009 21:21

I went to the cinema this afternoon. It was blissful. I'm on maternity leave, waiting for new baby and DS in nursery.

Dh raised eyebrows and made sarky comments but I don't care.

Go and don't tell him. If he asks what you've done all day make up some fantasy household task that he would never notice even if you had done it.

gonaenodaethat · 27/01/2009 21:23

Can't take chocolate. Am on diet. but thanks for support.

I'm going to visit my sister in the US for a week on Saturday - all on my own - leaving dh + 2 x ds behind. I plan to see to least 3 films, drink lots of hot chocolate and eat pancakes, cherry pie, bagels... and have some full nights' sleep for the first time in 18 months.

Tell that to your dh and it might put your modest cinema trip into perspective ....

gonaenodaethat · 27/01/2009 21:29

I will jkklpu.

He is a tosser sometimes.

No I dont agree with him. you should enjoy any free time you have. If you wanna go to the cinema go. Its a standing joke that i,m never at home on my day off. Housework gets done when it gets done(usually by my dh) cause im either working or spending the day with dd2 taking her shopping, meeting up with friends etc. Thats why i work part time(well 30hrs not exactly part time!)

squeaver · 27/01/2009 21:31

ffs. Go.

fuzzywuzzy · 27/01/2009 21:34

not at all, I actually prefer going to the cinema in the day, it's quieter, and you get good seats, and it reminds me of when I was a student and did this when exams were over.

Why does it bother your dh so much, does he want to see the film too??

snigger · 27/01/2009 21:42

Oh I do this all the time. Sometimes DH plays hookey and pals along, but mainly I go alone, eat trash, then go for lunch.

Do it do it do it.

You're working, and you're doing the lion's share of the housework?

Time like this is so precious. Your DH is just jealous and indulging in a bit of dummy-spitting - let him.

gonaenodaethat · 27/01/2009 21:43

It bothers him because he'll be at work. He's not arsed about seeing the film.

And don't worry squeaver. I was always going to go. Was just going to show him the thread to show that people don't agree.

Can't now tho as have called him a tosser.

OP posts:
snigger · 27/01/2009 21:44

Oh, and I'm a 'half-time' (24hrs a week) worker, too.

KingCanuteIAm · 27/01/2009 21:46

Start a new one, I will happily name change lots to make sure you get a representative number (for all the people who would agree with you but are not here tonight for whatever reason!)

BTW, he is wrong IMO

snigger · 27/01/2009 21:47

Oh, do that

gonaenodaethat · 27/01/2009 21:57

Thanks, that's very generous but think I'll show him this anyway. He knows what he is

And thanks for the support.

What is it with some blokes and their rigid mind-sets? For God's sake life is short - grab your moments of fun when you can!

izyboy · 27/01/2009 22:17

DH and I were watching that oz Clarke and James May prog about beer tasting in Dublin. I mentioned I fancied a trip to Dublin but didn't fancy us dragging the littlies over there as we couldn't imbibe. DH said why didn't I go over with a mate for a weekend trip. So tell your DH not to be so bloody tight arsed. I am a SAHM by the way.

stinkymonkey · 27/01/2009 22:27

Cinema in the day time is the bestest treat ever - definitely do it.

But did you know that Revolutionary Road is basically two people shouting at each other for two hours? It will be like seeing your worst rows with DH played big on the screen, over and over again.

hackneybird · 28/01/2009 22:37

Cinema in the day, like stinky monkey says, is the best thing ever.

I agree with fruitstick - go and don't tell him. What's more, make it a regular treat for yourself.

NormaJeanBaker · 28/01/2009 22:41

Cinema in the day - one of the essentials of a life well lived. Dh is just jealous. My parents used to nick off work to go before they were married. Very romantic. And sort of romantic to go alone and in the day too.

moondog · 28/01/2009 22:41

What a knob.
What you do in your own time is up to you.
I've been to the cinema this afternoon.
It's my most favourite thing to do.

Wonderstuff · 28/01/2009 22:45

So he NEVER does fun things while you are working/housework/looking after the dcs??
GO! He is jealous!
