The bbc's refusal to broadcast the DEC appeal was actually a positive thing and people seem to have missed that...

The appeal was only broadcast once. So unless you were watching during those four minutes you wouldn't have even known about it...

The bbc refusing to broadcast it has actually kept it in the news for three days now and counting. Thus ensuring it has received far more publicity than it otherwise would have done.

Now I haven't made any secret of the fact that I agree with the bbc's stance on not broadcasting the appeal, but regardless of one's viiew on the matter, the refusal of the bbc to broadcast the appeal has actually been a positive step for it.

( ironic btw donation erring on itiful side LOL)

charitygirl · 27/01/2009 16:42

Perhaps I am just too cynical - probably most people would donate to both. Although Israel wouldn't need it.

Regarding the OP, it's true that the BBC's decision has given great publicity. But that's an unintended consequence, and I think you have to take their intentions into consideration if you're judging the virtue of their action. Don't you??

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 27/01/2009 16:49

I like to think most people would give to both and that their objection is based upon that.

I am naive though- shouldn't be, the Israel haters were in force on my Uni course tbh. Don't get it- a kid's a kid in my book, esp. when in need.
Charity girl- in th charity sector? Which one? (used to work in it myself)

beanieb · 27/01/2009 16:51

What about SKY?

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 27/01/2009 16:55

Also shit but theya re commercial so could be justifiably leaned on by commercial interests IYSWIM whereas the BBC is not allowed to be.

beanieb · 27/01/2009 17:01

And the BBC could be leaned on by the people who will use anything to detroy it? The BBC gets so many complaints of Bias they really do have to be careful.

charitygirl · 27/01/2009 17:20

yup in the charity sector - work for a very well know organisation provising 'marriage guidance' (well, that's what we used to call it, but you don't have to be married to use us!) Also used to work for a small maternity advice and rights charity - loved that!

How about you?

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 27/01/2009 18:13
