i know this is a dog shit thread but cat shit is my pet (ha) hate. especially as we dont even own a cat. every day the sneaky bugger craps in our garden. i thought cats were supposed to bury it? this one just dumps on the grass, always by the childrens swing as well. does anyone have any tried and tested way of stopping it apart from killing the bloody thing (apologies cat lovers).

I used to put pepper down, that worked.

Goober · 26/01/2009 19:15

Pepper.
Lots and lots of black pepper.

Tamarto · 26/01/2009 19:16

justpeachy · 26/01/2009 19:17

Tamarto · 26/01/2009 19:22

not a peachy lover, though i do love peaches. No need for that comment.

Disclaimer: I'm not a peachy lover because i don't know her, not for any other reason

mysterymoniker · 26/01/2009 19:23

sorry, felt sad for the cat cos you joked about killing it

mysterymoniker · 26/01/2009 19:23

but toy rubber snakes ARE supposed to be good

fledtoscotland · 26/01/2009 19:24

water pistols! or do like we did and get two dogs. bit extreme but it stops the cats coming in our garden

Squirdle · 26/01/2009 19:28

Well that was a piece of helpful info by MysteryMoniker

Peachy...have to say I agree with you, dogs don't tend to get into the garden, but cats think they can go wherever they want!!!! Apparently orange peel is supposed to dter them....

mysterymoniker · 26/01/2009 19:29

I can see my comment is really not as funny as it seemed in my head when I typed it

so, adding an extra layer of sincerity to my apology squirm

Squirdle · 26/01/2009 19:33

Oh yes and water pistols are good. We got told off by a lady in the next lane because we squirted her cat with a water pistol. It kept trying to get into our house via the conservatory windows and scratched and bit my then 18 months and 3 and a half year old because they wanted to stroke it while it lounged in our garden all day! I was told 'you mustn't squirt water at him, he is old!!' to which I replied 'Mrs lady, he will not leave my garden...he tries to get into my house and he scratches and bites my small children.... I don't want a cat....take him away!'

I actually got the number for the cat owner from the people who used to own the house as he was a pest to them too!

noonki · 26/01/2009 19:34

my cat was using the neighbours garden so I got her some cats away stuff from the petshop,

she says its working - so some poor other neightbour is suffering now (sorry if you are them)

nb she refuses a litter tray so dont know what else to do.

justpeachy · 26/01/2009 19:35

apology accepted mysterymoniker but maybe think it through next time (i happened to take real offence as a relative committed suicide last year) so in poor taste to me.
thanks for all other advice everybody.

Ok MM, we all type without thinking sometimes

justpeachy · 26/01/2009 19:37

If your DC aren't out in the garden atm with the weather being so awful, I can strongly recommend dotting loads of cocktail sticks about! Would be tricky making sure they're all out when the weather improves but has worked a treat in my flower beds

Squirdle · 26/01/2009 19:40

Hopefully that particular cat is dead now...we haven't seen him for a while!

Squirdle · 26/01/2009 19:41

Iwish...I bet that works

justpeachy · 26/01/2009 19:42

thats an interesting one Iwish, i'll keep it in reserve

we have a cat crapper that goes in our greenhouse to do one.... we have hung up old cd's and somehow the reflectiveness scares them away - since doing this our cat crapper has not returned

We bought those cat deterrent beepers from Amazon £35. Not one mess since, they're great!!!! ... I think it's disgusting cats roam freely to do this. Imagine if my dog left a horrible runny mess in my neighbour's garden every night!!!
