To think a cleaner should be able to use a Dyson?

I paid for someone to clean my house (5 months pregnant and not flush so it was a bit of an extravagance to be honest)
Apparently my house is so filthy she managed to only clean the bathroom, ensuite and half do the lounge and kitchen in 4 hours...but here is the clincher....she didn't hoover my stairs (the most important bit for me!) as she couldn't figure out how to operate a F*** dyson......

Ooo Pan are you the cleaner?!

oldraver · 21/01/2009 20:40

Well she had enough time to figure it out. i do my neighbours.... 4 beds, kitchen, dining, living room, huge hall, stairs, landing, cloakroom, bathroom and two ensuites. I alwyas stay for 4 hours due to the amount she gives me so do windows, cupboards, fridge etc

I dont touch the boys dumping ground for football boots utility at all

kylesmybaby · 21/01/2009 20:51

op - is it the dyson ball?

chloejessmeg · 21/01/2009 20:55

I have a dyson, but hate the bit that does the stairs so much I got one of those mini, chargeable ones just for the stairs and car etc. I love the dyson for normal, upright use but can't be doing with the tuby bit. Mine is the dyson ball.

None of my kids or Dh know how to release the stair attatchment on my dyson. Did you specify what sort of things you wanted doing , ie , did she do the usual things or some of the " invisable " jobs ?

Ive worked as a cleaner in the past and unless you know the people well there can be confusion. Some people want a thorough clean , all furniture / kitchen appliances , beds pulled out and hoovered ,mopped underneath , skirting boards done , kickboards off in kitchen and hoovered and mopped under there , ect.
These things take time and theres not a lot to show for it itkwim.

Other folk just want the basics doing in which case its a doddle , and theres often time to fit extra jobs in .
Other people have piles of crap you have to wade through before you can start doing anything.
Some people have NO cleaning products whatsoever and no , cloths ect.

Maybe she was very thorough in what she did do ? If you went through an agency you should call and ask them to explain. Usually if your not happy they will send someone else out free of charge.

blimey inlaw - seriously you have been asked to remove the kickboards in the kitchen and mop underneath? Crikey!

wishingchair · 21/01/2009 22:59

am now contemplating the mounds of filth that lie behind my kickboards.

Agree wholeheartedly about the tidying ... we've just cancelled our cleaner as I realised that the difficult bit is keeping the place tidy ... once you've got that sussed (which you have to do before the cleaner can clean anyway), the cleaning takes no time at all. Our lovely cleaner would do 2 hours every 2 weeks and clean 3 beds, 2 baths, kitchen, 3 other rooms including hoovering, dusting and mopping floors. So she should've got through a lot in 4 hours assuming no tidying was involved. But as inlaw said, if what she did was really thorough then ...

I also have a dustbuster so I can quickly whiz over the sofa (bloody cats) and stairs.

Seriously yes , also washing machines , fridges ect. Without implying the OPs house is filthy ,
I didnt notice fingermarks on doors , lightswitches in my own house unless its really bad but i always looked out for this sort of thing at work because this is they type of thing some people will complain about .
Sometimes half your time is spent doing these little jobs that most of us dont notice.
You say she did the on suite , if you have a bathroom cabinet she might well have emptied it all out , cleaned it then put everything back.
When some people say they want the kitchen doing most of us mean a general clean , some want you to remove everything from the cupboards , and i mean everything , clean the cupboard then put everything back.
They,ll often complain if you dont even though they didnt ask.
Often if you do they,ll complain that not much else got done.

Sounds like it wasnt made clear what sort of clean you wanted.

mylifemykids · 22/01/2009 09:31

I've never even thought of removing my kickboards God I bet there's so much dirt behind them...in fact I may have to have a look after I've had my coffee (and MN fix!)

I've been a cleaner too and I know what you mean about doing things you wouldn't even think of doing in your own house unless absolutely necessary. obviously the hoovering of stairs IS necessary though and should have been done. Depending on your Dyson though it's not always easy to get the attachment out if you don't know how.
