to complain to the head office of Monsoon about this

I went shopping in Monsoon kids at the weekend. There was a young girl (5 or 6 yrs) looking at the jewellery/hair accessories near the entrance to the changing rooms while her mum helped her other daughter try on shoes

The shop assistant (late 50s, at a guess) standing by the changing room siddled over and whispered to her "do you like that?"
When the little girl replied "yes", she whispered back "go and tell your mummy you really like it and really want it. Tell your mummy you have to have it"

I looked over and said "excuse me?" and the assistant wandered off into the changing rooms.
I was in a bit of a hurry so didn't say anything to the staff, but the more I think about it, the more outraged I am!
Should I complain to head office?
It was the bluewater store btw

no, she sounds like a good salesperson

CioccolataCalda · 20/01/2009 14:06

scandalous!

Write a snotty letter and vent your feelings.

There is far too much merchandise aimed at kids and they really don't need any encouragement to pester!

mumblechum · 20/01/2009 14:06

Don't you have anything better to worry about? If not, I envy you.

oneyummymummy · 20/01/2009 14:07

I can see how this is wrong... the saleswoman trying to get kids to moan at parent until parent gives in! However she may have just been trying to talk to the little one to keep her occupied and probably didnt realise what she was saying!

chickenfortea · 20/01/2009 14:08

Unless they have outstanding customer service I think you would get the brush off.

wotulookinat · 20/01/2009 14:18

YABU and a bit nosy.
Maybe the shop lady was bored and fancied watching a tantrum erupt

Lauriefairycake · 20/01/2009 14:20

I wouldn't complain - sounds like she was just keeping her amused/making conversation.

claw3 · 20/01/2009 14:26

If you were that outraged you should have told the girls mother and let her deal with it.

FimbleHobbs · 20/01/2009 14:28

I'd keep out. You never know, the shop assistant might have known the mother and been doing it tongue in cheek...

Suedonim · 20/01/2009 14:32

What relevance is the woman's age to the question?

samsonara · 20/01/2009 14:34

Does not surprise me my friend works for them and they have a pep talk everymorning and are actually encouraged to push for sales

I could half understand if it was a saturday girl being cheeky, but a woman should know better than to get children to engage in a bit of pester power!

Get a life.

Maybe she knew the child, maybe she's a good saleswoman. Maybe the mother said no.

It wasn't your child so imho it's none of your business either.

ahfeckit · 20/01/2009 14:44

i imagine it gets a little boring in the shop sometimes, if there's hardly anyone around. give the saleswoman a break! it was probably a joke.

yabu

mrsseanbean · 20/01/2009 14:46

I do think it is a bit irresponsible to be encouraging a 6 year old to pester for stuff TBH. If she had been old enough to make the decision and purchase herself, fair enough. I doubt the mother in question would have been ecstatic about it.

I wouldn't bother with a letter though OP. It won't make any difference.

Lotster · 20/01/2009 15:13

Unreasonable behaviour of hers, yes, but threadworthy this is not.

louii · 20/01/2009 15:18

Oh for gods sake get a grip, not really any of your business.
