Especially when we are under a lot of pressure from school not to take holidays in term time?

Where do we get all the good deals?
And presumably you'll be the parent of a school aged child yourself one day.

Ah but the thing is all of these companies who advertise their wonderful offers feature school age children enjoying their facilities in the adverts!!

It does get on my nerves but really you cant blame the holiday companies for bumping the price blame the government for this ridiculous blanket rule.

The sort of parent to takes their children out frequently will still do so and the rest of us pay the price!

It would have made more sense if the rule had not applied to primary age children, they often learn more by experience.

They are a business, not a charity.

They will do all they can to get people to use their services throughout the year. And that includes half-price holidays for people without school-age children. sorry, but that's life.

Almeida · 20/01/2009 10:18

With the credit cruch perhaps they'll be some good offers soon for the school hols

ipanemagirl · 20/01/2009 10:20

It is frustrating, we all want the perks to apply to us! But it is the rule of the free market isn't it?
And isn't it great where the free market has got us now! It was SO well regulated wasn't it!!! All those lovely greedy bankers who didn't understand economics! And most of them will have to do with one less boat or one less holiday home! I feel terrible for them.

flowerybeanbag · 20/01/2009 10:22

Irritating but they are a commercial business trying hard to maintain some level of profit at the moment. Keeping prices high during school holidays when they are fully booked and reducing them even further during term time when they are probably struggling to fill holiday spaces is a basic commercial decision.

I know you're all right re the market forces argument. And it does make total business sense, I know that too.
I had just watched the ad featuring obviously school aged children enjoying the facilities of Haven and it had chapped my ass a little bit.
Have just come back from Sikh temple school trip and am now serene.

And thanks re the name thing Butterfly. I like yours too.

And you're reight too Butterfly about the other holidays. With a little bit of research and imagination you can find better deals elsewhere.

I think you're being a bit of both really. I (as a teacher) find the excluding holidays thing annoying and it does encourage people to holiday during term time (I know some can only get time off then - but some can pick other times and don't because of the money). Poor attendance is an tricky thing for a child to overcome. Not talking 1 or 2 days but 10 days absence etc. On the othet hand, if your children are younger then great! Sometimes I wish I could holiday during term time however, many people probably wish they got 13 weeks holidays per year like I do! so I will quietly daydream away!
