Staff wanted! Part time work available! Flexible Hours! Ring This Number Now.

Look, just fucking well say it's Kleeneze. Or filling envelopes. Or delivering pizza leaflets.
I honestly think that adverts which give no indication of what the job is should be illegal as they are such a waste of everyone's time and money.

BYW have you seen this thread looking for you?

MorrisZapp · 16/01/2009 17:49

Totally. Similarly, I don't get the point of adverts for flats to rent 'in good part of city'. Name the street, and I'll be able judge how desirable it is for myself, thanks.

YANBU
These really piss me off.

Especially when it is high pressure sales but you don't find out until you turn up for the training. That happened to a friend of mine and she said most of the people there walked out when they were told. According to the course trainer that happened a lot

What a waste of everyone's time and effort.

Have been searching through adverts a lot recently and there are so many sales jobs that are described as anything but. Surely it's false advertising?

solidgoldsoddingjanuaryagain · 16/01/2009 18:59

Well yes this is what drives me nuts - there are, after all, people who are happy to do selling jobs, and are good at it, so why not just have an ad which says 'Sales job! Gobby unprincipled fuckwits needed!' (OK, perhaps a more diplomatic version). But otherwise it is such a waste of time.
BLoody hell even sex work ads make it pretty clear what the job is so you can choose whether or not to apply.
It's not that I don't know that nothing will earn me £500000 a week from the comfort of my own home, but if it's something that might concievably earn me an extra £50 a week then I would rather they gave the info so I could decide whether I wanted to do it or not.

How about job adverts that do tell you exactly what the job is, is your dream job but omit to mention that someone internal has been promised it and it is being advertised simply to keep the unions quiet. The application form you sweated over all weekend will go from envelope to bin in one swift move.

'£excellent', '£generous' or similar gets me. If the £ is so excellent and generous, it would be a selling point and therefore would be in the ad.
