...extra items of school uniform this long after the school year has started?

I wouldn't mind if it was a normal standard school tracksuit but it's £21 for the tracksuit top (with the school crest on it) and £14 for the tracksuit bottoms to match!

Bloomin' heck but i have nothing in my own wardrobe that expensive!

What ticks me off even more is that it wasn't on the Uniform list at the start of the year as obligatory, it was marked as 'optional'. the alternative option i now find out is that my kids have to do Games outside in all weathers in only shorts and t-shirt even though i have provided their £14 'Games Jersey' and a pair of black jogpants specifically for the purpose.

They're not even on any teams or anything, so really, why do i have to buy this extra stuff now?

Have a look here GNYB

www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Schoolslearninganddevelopment/SchoolLife/DG_4016078

I'm not sure if it is applicable to your circumstances but it does say that schools have to take into account cost implications when making school uniform policy. Doesn't look like they have in your situation.

And why would anybody flame you for being on benefits? There's plenty of people here who are there, have been there and might still find themselves there. Nothing is certain in this world. Take no notice if they do!!

Hmm.

Technofairy - they can't share, they are in the same class as they didn't have many friends in that school when they started there.
The games teacher is definately aware - i sent a letter in telling her!

TheLadyEvenstar - it's embroidered on EVERYTHING...so no chance.

Ingles2 - i may have to research this before i go in, guns blazing!

Ds's school have changed the games kit and we have to buy a couple of new things at the start of our academic year in Feb. But lots of things are not compulsary until 2010.

It's annoying because he has only just started and things I bought new thinking he could wear them for a couple of years and then I could sell the secondhand have been rendered worthless after a single term.

I had been buying second hand uniforms in larger sizes thinking I was being clever - but I've stopped now in case that changes too.
