To think DH should apologise in person?

I was on the phone to my grandfather earlier. He's in his mid-70s and its not often we talk. He is not well and has not been well for some time, so much wrong with him.

Anyway I was chatting away and then I said "sorry Grandad, I'll be 2 seconds, I just need to turn the pan off as it's boiling over" and he said "ok".

So I ran off to the kitchen, sorted the pan, went to pick the phone up and DH walked past and belched really loudly right next to the phone. Not a normal burp though, it was very OTT and vulgar.

My grandad didn't say anything but BLATENTLY heard it and I think he thought I'd done it as I picked the phone up because he said "anyway, I'll let you get off now and see to your dinner" and started trying to get off the phone. I was too embarrassed to mention it so he probably got off the phone and said to his wife "you should have heard what megaphone just did down the phone!" etc

I'm annoyed at DH and want him to apologise, he thinks its funny and that I'm taking it too seriously. God knows what my grandad thinks now

Yup, if he does it a lot, just say, without any apparent interest, 'SOrry, Dh is going through a childish phase of burp-on-purpose, I think he gets it from the kids' and carry on your conversation.

Bless him, he's clearly young at heart.
Your reaction is half the fun though!

If you genuinely want him to stop
treat it as a parenting problem:
Praise the good, ignore the bad.

SO sorry, but this thread is hilarious! I'm literally crying with laughter and my 2 yr old is cracking up (only because I am, he has no clue why).

The funniest bit was your description of the conversation with your niece!

In response to your initial question, YAB a bit U to expect him to do it in person, but I'd still think it was a bit out of order. I would do what the other posters are suggesting and say 'sorry, DH thinks it's hilarious to burp down the phone'.....

I'm afraid I keep giggling as well, though can appreciate it would be annoying to have someone do this at you all the time.
Though I am a bit prone to unexpected belches myself especially on the phone - 'So anyway, about the RRRRURRRRRRPP job advert...'
Though it's not as bad as my other unfortunate trick of answering the phone and, to my own surprise, sneezing MASSIVELY before I can say hello...
