It sounds like it might be urgent............................

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 12/01/2009 22:10

Id answer the call if I were you. Just think he will remeber this when it comes to promotion and payrise time.

xfabba · 12/01/2009 22:12

i think you need to answer it even though he's out of order. It cant be routine if he is so obsessed or maybe he's testing you.

littleducks · 12/01/2009 22:12

he shouldnt be calling you at ten at night but you are buggered arent you as Seashells points out

Do tell us if it was urgen or not

Lauriefairycake · 12/01/2009 22:18

A dozen calls about non-urgent matters

Erm.....no, I wouldn't be calling him back and I would be very effective at call screening.

I'm guessing you are not working right now?

sausagenmash · 12/01/2009 22:18

Hmmmm. Last time my boss did this he was pissed and told me to go and buy a hamster....

LynetteScavo · 12/01/2009 22:19

Are you sure he's not stalking you?

AnyFucker · 12/01/2009 22:20

does he fancy you ?

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 12/01/2009 22:22

Does sound a bit odd and unreasonable behaviour on his part. But do you think you could give my DH some tips about how to avoid work-related calls during non-working hours (particularly 1pm on a Sunday, 5 minutes before lunch is ready )

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 12/01/2009 22:23

lol sausage. Did you buy him one? I'd have been tempted to arrive promptly at work the next day brandishing a ball of fluff and asking what he is going to call his newly accquired pet.

elliott · 12/01/2009 22:24

Personally I think this is gross invasion of privacy!
There can be few work related matters that would require a response by phone now rather than in the morning. If it was that urgent, surely you should be actually at work on duty? Are you on call?

sausagenmash · 12/01/2009 22:24

It was tempting! He'd just bought a new printer for the office and a shredder came free with it, and he said that all the shredded bits of paper would make nice nests!!

What a dilemma! [groan]

TBH I think you need to manage your boss. Do you have caller display? If so, just don't answer - it saves having to address the issue directly, but will still get the point across once it happens a few times.

Or you could just say to him - stop phoning me at homebe blunt with him and tell him to stop.

Are you on call? What sector do you work in?

YANBU tell him if he phones late he will disturb dcs - that might give him the hint!

elliott · 12/01/2009 22:40

Well if its not a crazy city type job with major expectations of presentee-ism I would just tell him its unacceptable.
I mean in my job (uni) lots of people work silly hours and e-mail in the evenings and weekends (I've just done my e-mails), but they'd never dream of calling someone at that time...

ManIFeelLikeAWoman · 12/01/2009 22:51

Don't be in.

If that's not an option, you - or someone you trust to speak on your behalf, if you can't do confrontation - need to tell him, as a blanket rule with no exceptions, that phoning you at home is unacceptable.

I'm in local govt too. If this was really important they would buy you a Blackberry and email you. Don't stand for this.

edam · 12/01/2009 22:54

do you think he might be cracking under the strain? NOT a reasonable way to behave and the fact he doesn't even begin to see tht would make me wonder.

3Ddonut · 12/01/2009 22:57

It sounds as though he's becoming stressed and obsessed and losing sight of life outside of work.

Local Govt? Would they not have a policy on this?

alarkaspree · 13/01/2009 12:50

Oh dear, it does sound as if he's not well, especially if this is relatively recent behaviour. I think you need to tell him to stop calling you at home, and if he continues have an informal chat with his boss if you can, or HR even.

Of course it is also a possibility that he fancies you.
