To take all the bags with us......

Quick opinions needed - my DH and I are about to leave for a few days away, I have been busily packing, preparing etc. I am 35 weeks pregnant, and want to take my hospital and labour bags (and car seat) with me just in case. My DH has seen the pile of luggage by the door and...ahem....expressed concern...at the amount of stuff we have to take. He doesn't see the need (are you REALLY going to go into labour in the next few days?)

Any opinions??? Am I being horrendously overprepared???

Maybe take the bags but not the car seat - DH can always come back for that!

twinklytoes · 11/01/2009 09:29

take the labour bag and your notes - everything else can be collected after delivery. have a great time.

BoffinMum · 11/01/2009 09:37

I would take notes and a hospital bag, unless it's miles and miles away. DH can always pop back for the rest of the stuff if you need it - it would have meant you were in hospital for two weeks with a premature baby anyway.

After 37 weeks take everything wherever you go!

bubblagirl · 11/01/2009 09:41

from 35 weeks my bags and notes went where i went to stay you just never know and best to be safe

bubblagirl · 11/01/2009 09:41

i wouldn't take car seat dp could always drive back and get that

bubblagirl · 11/01/2009 09:43

i have to say i never took a big bag just few items notes nighty and baby outfit dp was prepared to drive back for anything else as wouldn't be allowed to stay at hospital anyway

PenelopePitstops · 11/01/2009 09:44

take them!

my mum went for a day out at 40 weeks and didnt take anything because none of her babies had been on time, guess what happened that day!

sandcastles · 11/01/2009 09:46

Depends how far you are going & how the pregnancy is going!

I had dd at 36 weeks, but I started to develop Pre Eclampsia so I knew I could go at any time...

Agree with other, labour bag & notes if all is going well.

I'd take notes and baby clothes - but if you can fit it all in take as much as makes you feel comfortable. Have a nice time!

firstontheway · 11/01/2009 10:23

If it fits, take it all! If only because by not taking it, you'd probably worry the whole time (if you're anything like me!)

notcitrus · 11/01/2009 12:52

I took car seat and hospital bag when going away at 36 weeks, but it didn't take up much space - one carrier bag of food, one of baby clothes, change for me, toiletries. I also had directions and phone numbers of all maternity units en route...

We got an earful at all our antenatal classes to get us taking our notes everywhere - so always had mine from 27 weeks!

MrsTittleMouse · 11/01/2009 15:22

I did the same thing when we took a trip at 36 weeks. I'm sure that I could have done without the stuff had I gone into labour, but why should I, if I could take the bags?

OatcakeCravings · 11/01/2009 17:24

I would take them. The worst thing about giving birth 5 weeks early for me was not having a hospital bag ready and having to ask DH to come in to the hospital with stuff - he did his best but you know... It didn't help that I was in hosp for a full week either!

Next time I'm packing a bag at 30 weeks!

OatcakeCravings · 11/01/2009 17:25

Actually rethinking that - the worst thing probably wasn't not having a nice nightie etc but it does stick in my mind

NAB3lovelychildren · 11/01/2009 17:27

Leave the car seat but take your notes and an overnight bag.

We took everything on the Sunday when going in for a check up but didn't bother when going back the next day for a scan. Yes, you guessed it, had the baby.

peachygirl · 11/01/2009 17:29

Could you not pack a small 'provisional' bag with you with the bare essentials in it , nighties for hosp, towel and a baby bits? You could leave this in the boot of the car while you are at your hotel.

Then leave your hosp bag right by the front door so your DH just has to reach inside the house if he has to go and get it?

prettybutterfly · 11/01/2009 18:09

I've managed to go to hosp without my labour bag twice now, and it wasn't a big issue either time.

You'd survive without.

I suspect you're taking them as sort of talismans or something. If it helps you cope then take something, but not everything, and try not to fret. You won't need any of it!

Good luck!
