I go on Freecycle all of the time. Its great to get rid of unwanted items and get new things-and all for free!! Whats not to like?

Most people are lovely and send 'normal' replies but some send things like this

In its entirety...

[ if u still ave these plese send ur a ddress and i will
arrange pik up ]

No name ,salutation or acknowledgement of what was offered.

I know that text speak is all around and not considered rude by those
who indulge but does anyone else agree that this reply is beyond
normal?

Fimbo - I don't use a Mac, sorry. I shall ask the other mods and see if they cannot suggest anything.
You know you have to set up a Yahoo mail account to use Freecycle?

BTW with my Freecycle, we have no objection to people posting lots of "Offered" posts rather just one with various, but we do tend to clamp down on lots of Wanted posts though - as we don't want to have too many messages being posted, IYSWIM, coz people just get fed up of their inboxes being flooded out.

Are all Freecycle groups on Yahoo? sorry if that sounds a silly question but for some reason I cant get to grips with Yahoo group pages!

tiktok · 14/01/2009 11:20

I use a Mac - make no difference at all!

Fimbo · 14/01/2009 11:46

How do you get it to work though? Safari comes up with that raw data thing everytime I try to join my local group. My friend said I might need firefox? As I am not very technical that means nothing to me.

tiktok · 14/01/2009 13:56

I no longer use Safari - Firefox knocks it into a tin hat

Firefox is just a browser - like Safari or Internet Explorer.

You can download it free.

But I have just opened Safari and gone to yahoogroups and looked for freecycle - all the groups are there.

So I can't see a problem!

Fimbo · 14/01/2009 13:58

I can see the groups I just can't register. It does it sometimes too with Ebay.

Thanks Tiktok will try firefox

ilovelovemydog · 14/01/2009 13:59

tiktok · 14/01/2009 14:36

Safari is bundled with all new Macs.

EachPeachPearMum · 15/01/2009 11:07

Fimbo- sorry- not sure what the problem is... I am using a macbook with safari, and can get onto freecycle fine....but I am very new to mac, so don't know what to suggest I'm afraid.
New thread in 'geeky' section maybe?

BouncingTurtle · 15/01/2009 11:21

Yes, sorry none the wiser here!

Download page for firefox
You'll need to select the correct for language and OS.

Give Firefox a try as it is trés fab!

Fimbo · 16/01/2009 10:27

BT/TIKTOK/EACHPEACH.

Hurray!! Thank you all, have downloaded firefox and have managed to join my local freecycle group (well awaiting the nod iykwim!).

Thank you so much.

BT- you were right about Firefox even the typing on here looks better!

EachPeachPearMum · 16/01/2009 11:56

Glad it is sorted... as a firfox to safari convert, I think the typeface in safari is nicer! Funny what you notice!

i am completely addicted to freecycle and completely love the philosophy that i can give something i no longer need to someone who does and declutter my house in return for receiving items i do want from someone who doesn't want their house full of unwanted items, but i feel uneasy about the idea of people having to justify their need -its mutally beneficial not lord of the manor charity where the giver concedes to allow some lowlife their posessions. Being polite is obviously important but i don't feel it necessary to give to the most worthy story
