Work in a NHS clinic. A patient appeared at 10.30 for a 14.30 appointment demanding to be seen. Now, this clinic is quite specialised. Each patient has a half hour appointment.

So, I said to early patient we would see her, but it would be at the end of clinic (for which I would not be paid the extra half hour as I work half days, ending at 12.30pm, and my NHS trust has stopped overtime/time owing).

So, I ended up working an extra half hour for no pay because someone believes the world revolves around her.

So AIBU to have expected her to phone and ask if she could come early before doing so.

YANBU at all - poor you

souperdahrlink · 08/01/2009 16:20

YANBU you should've told her to come back at the right time.

Lauriefairycake · 08/01/2009 16:20

you shouldn't have seen her - just gives her a license to treat others the same.

Sorry you worked over - that sucks.

cheshirekitty · 08/01/2009 16:21

Did think about doing that souper, but then felt mean. May yet grow a backbone!!!

You should have told her to go away and come back later the cheeky mare!

Cheshire kitty, I run an NHS clinic too. You are SO NBU. I have had that before - parent and child turned up 2 hours early wanting to be seen there and then because of parking or some other tosh. Told them I would see them but at their appointment time, and they would have to wait. They weren't happy - told them tough! They came back....!! I run my clinic to a very tight schedule and try hard not to over-run, so usually when I explain its ok. Usually!

In addition, I'd either come in 1/2hr later or leave at 12 another day to make up for it. You get nothing from the NHS!

BexieID · 08/01/2009 16:37

4 hours early? The earliest i've arrived for an appointment was an hour I think for my 20 week scan. I was quite prepared to wait though. We were early in case I couldnt get parked or find the place. I did get scanned first as the first appointment was late. We did arrive 40 mins early for Toms ENT appointment last month, and just joined the queue.

Cheshire, people are taking advantage of your loveliness.

Tell them to stick to the appointed time.
