To complain to the school for allowing dd(8) to do games outside wearing shorts yesterday?

I'm was fuming when she told me, and I jsut can't get it out of my head, and debating about calling the school or popping in later.

She forgot her PE kit. I packed it all ready for her, she left it in her room, and although I did realise she had forgotten it when I dropped her, it was first day back at school and I had so many things to catch up on, I really didn't have time to make another trip up there to drop it.

I assumed if she did have games, she'd have to sit it out. She came home and told me she was asked to hunt for some trousers or shorts in a pile and ended up going outside in sub zero temperatures in shorts. I can't believe they let her go out like that, and she is now complaining of a sore throat.

Am I being precious and overeacting or not?

i remember bitter days playing basketball in a polo shirt and navy blue mini pe SKIRT!

when the ball hit your fingers in the cold, you bloody knew about it.

I really wanted to come on all 'ard northern like and call you a softie, but realistically in this day and age - kids shouldn't be doing pe outside in shorts in the freezing forsty snowy winter.

This is something which annoys me as well. Schools are responsible for all aspects of a child's welfare during school hours, this includes making sure they are physically looked after. The temperatures in the last few days have been bitterly cold so I do think it is rather cruel not to ensure a child is properly dressed for the outside. Even if running around a child would not feel warm in sub-zero conditions as some responders have suggested. I think you should tactfully raise the subject with your school. Is it even appropriate to do outdoor PE in extremely cold weather?

We always had bare legs in winter when I was little and am still alive. Over reacting I think.

I just shorts yes - but in shorts and a jumper no. And shoes would be a bonus.

I would be annoyed that from a pile of trousers and shorts she chose the bloody shorts! I'd give her a talking-to about that, the numpty. She should have asked someone to help her find trousers that fit.
