to be a bit [hmm] that my local Big Issue seller was in the supermarket buying organic food that I can't afford?

lillycat · 06/01/2009 21:26

I saw him in the local waitrose today with a basket full of organic fruit and veg and other stuff that I could never afford.

Just seems a bit harsh really, we have to eat value everything to make ends meet despite dp working full time and me childminding.

He has a girldfriend with a small child so they must be eligible for housing anyway

the gloves were mine dh hd just bought them for me and as i gave her the money for the mag she touched my (warm) hands and sighed i took them off and gave them to her and she was very pleased ....... my dh meanwhile walked off..........

back to the shop to buy me more!!!

I didnt mention the gloves to win you over northern lurker i understand your feelings and realise im a biut judgey- the very thing i curse others for.

Guadalupe · 06/01/2009 21:57

I asked my mum this evening if any of the people she helped at work today would be sleeping outside and she said loads and loads of them. There are hardly any spaces in the shelters. I can't believe someone would survive sleeping outside in these temperatures. It's awful.

I would worry about this rather than someone who may have been homeless once, who is entitled to earn money from selling the big issue, buying some organic veg.

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 21:57

I wouldn't buy a big issue if i was paid all the money in the world! nothing would ever change my mind

notnowbernard · 06/01/2009 21:59

And the OP is where, exactly?

Maybe she IS watching Celeb BB after all!

wannaBe · 06/01/2009 21:59

a few years ago a big issue seller was murdered in Cardiff. After his death it transpired that he had 350 grand in the bank.

Tbh does it matter?

If he was literally begging on the streets then how much money he had might be of some relevance but at least he's selling something to earn his money.

Northernlurker · 06/01/2009 22:00

Well Ladyevenstar let us all hope that if you are ever in a position where you need help you run into those who are of a more generous spirit than yourself.

Portofino · 06/01/2009 22:01

Can you give your reasons Ladyevenstar?

mazzystartled · 06/01/2009 22:01

I presume Lady Evenstar is trying to be deliberately provocative.

I actually think its a bit of a duff magazine. But I buy it anyway.

luminarphrases · 06/01/2009 22:04

Just so's you know, if the vendor gets caught being given the magazine back, they may well be banned from selling it in future, and please always buy from a vendor with I.D (some sellers have been attacked and the magazines stolen from them and sold).

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 22:08

Northernlurker
there was a time when i walked from home to college to feed a big issue seller, i went without lunch myself during that time to feed him, walked so i could get him a coffee...

BUT Now i would not buy one if i was paid...

READ THIS AND TELL ME IF YOU WOULD IF THIS HAD BEEN YOU WHO IT HAPPENED TO? SEE I DO HAVE A VALID REASON!!

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 22:10

Mazzy far from it in fact!

John Bird the ex editor of the big issue is a pig headed ass who thinks the criminals who sell the B.I (and i know they are not all criminals) should be given a second chance even a previously convicted murderer and thanks to him i will suffer for the rest of my life.

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 22:11

do you think it's remotely possible that his girl friend had some Healthy Start Vouchers - which can ONLY be used on Fresh Fruit, Veg and Milk?? I often spend my HS vouchers on "luxury" fruit and veg, for something a bit different from the limited range available in the value line.....

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 22:12

FAQ does everyone get HS vouchers? asking as ds2 is 15m old and i have never had one yet!

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 22:13

no you have to be on benefits (can't remember which ones) I'm on IS so I guess that's one.

You don't automatically get them you have to send a form off (ask your HV for one if you're eligble as she'll need to sign it too)

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 06/01/2009 22:14

I don't understand why you've linked to that the LES?

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 22:14

here you go you can find out if you qualify there.

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 22:17

Chancellor, because that piece of scum is the reason i will never buy another big issue, after he held me in a house for 8 1/2 hours slashed me 33 times and raped me when i was 18. on july 21st 1993 he was sentenced on 4th august 1994.

Unfortunatly I see the word big issue and i see red, I went out of my way to help someone and he took me at knife point in return. Oh and he has now been re convicted in ireland after absconding there and repeating the crime

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 22:18

FAQ Thanks for the link

Portofino · 06/01/2009 22:21

LES - if you were personally involved in this case in anyway that is truly awful and i can completely understand your avoidance of BI sellers.

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 22:21

TLE

Np for the link

brimfull · 06/01/2009 22:22

I am positive there was a thread with exactly the same title as this about a yr ago.I was surprised when I opened it to see it was todays.

Northernlurker · 06/01/2009 22:22

Ladyevenstar - that is a terrible experience but if you allow the behaviour of that individual to colour how you behave to an entire group of innocent people then I feel you are just allowinng him another way to control your life and inhibit who you are. I think you might want to ask for those posts to be deleted as it could potentially identify you.

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 22:23

agree with NortherLurkers post, especially the last sentence.

TheLadyEvenstar · 06/01/2009 22:25

Northern, I have no need to have it deleted! IO really don't he is in prison now in ireland, sadly i had to go through a few months of worry when he escaped, he should never have been released from rampton where he was originally sentenced to indefinatly.

HE is the one in the wrong not me and I am sick of hiding because of it, can't use my real name, am scared to go certain places in rl because it is where he took me from or to. I have now got to get on with life and most days are fine but others well i want to go back and no i don't want to go back actually i just want to ask him why

mazzystartled · 06/01/2009 22:26

les
what a horrible thing to happen to you, i also agree with nl and faq. get it deleted.
