School closure, was it handled well?

The school that shares the same site as our school had to close at 12.15 today as contractors managed to cut through tehir power supply. The kids were simply discharged onto the streets, this was ok for some children as they live in the village but I would estimate that 80%+ of their pupils come from outlying areas and rely on county provided transport to get home. No calls were placed to parents, no transport was arranged until 2.30pm. Lots of kids would've been ok (secondary school so 11-16yr olds) but some of the children have only been at the school for a matter of a few weeks and will be very young 11 year olds, lots of children wouldn't have had front door keys etc.

I know the school my kids attended would've released local kids (the ones who live in the village) but any relying on transport would've been mustered into a central hall until buses etc could be arranged. Any parent who usually took tehir child in to school would've been informed of teh situation.

Quite a few of our staff have children attending the school that had to close and for about an hour there was a lot of confusion as to exactly where their kids were.

Sounds quite badly handled, given the freezing temperatures today too.

That is really unacceptable tbh.

I too think that's unacceptable.

I was a bit shocked at dd coming home today and saying they weren't allowed outside at luchtime and break because of health and safety We live in the south-east and there was a small amount of ice. IMO that should not have stopped 10 year olds running about.
