It is his 18th ,when my sister and sil turned 18 we gave them £50.00 each and we obviously said we would give db the same .
We went up to see him today and he was hiding under a duvet on the sofa I gave him his cards and his money and he just waved his hand and said "pass it to Dad I owe it to B(our dsis)" So not only did he not say thankyou for the money ,he borrowed it in advance and pissed it up a wall.

sounds like his manners aren't the best

Ashantai · 02/01/2009 13:52

Thats 18 yr old boys ahem, men for ya

I can imagine my brother do the exact same thing tbh

Guadalupe · 02/01/2009 13:52

Sounds a bit like my brother. It is rude, but I probably would have just rolled my eyes at him.

Was he hiding under the duvet because he was embarrassed?

mollythetortoise · 02/01/2009 13:52

well he is 18!! Up to him how he spends the gift I guess and I agree I would't be best pleased with it but I don't think you can attach conditions to a cash gift.. you either give him it or don't.

kitbit · 02/01/2009 13:53

I would not have bothered to leave it behind, tbh.

ComeWhineWithMe · 02/01/2009 13:53

No you are right ,I dont even mind so much he spent it all on drink thats what 1 year olds do. Its just the assumption he was getting it and no thankyou at all .

wow. that is charming. You would have thought that he would have had the good grace to take it, say thank you very much and then pass it to B later and in private.
Tis rude Imo
YANBU

hercules1 · 02/01/2009 13:54

I would have said oh sorry can only give you a tenner this year.

Guadalupe · 02/01/2009 13:54

I would have been cross at lack of gratitude. I do remember spending expected money in advance at that age though.

ComeWhineWithMe · 02/01/2009 13:55

I don't think he was embarrased he was been miserable ,he moaned that my dc make too much noise and then later on tried to put my dd on the naughty step because she was stamping we dont even use the naughty step ,me thinks he has caught an episode of supernanny .

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 02/01/2009 13:56

He obviously had a headache.

cornsilk · 02/01/2009 13:57

What a brat! He's the one that should be on the fecking step.

ComeWhineWithMe · 02/01/2009 13:58

Guadalupe probably true ,he was moaning over baby annabell crying too .

ComeWhineWithMe · 02/01/2009 14:00

He is a brat ,my own Mum told me not to give it him cos he is an ungrateful bugger .

He is taking the whole Kevin the teenager thing too far now he does the eye rolling and everything ,he even threw a fit on Halloween 'cos Mum bought my dc some sweets and didn't get him any . his exact words were "she never buys me sweets ".

OP posts:
cornsilk · 02/01/2009 14:01

Ha ha! Bet he doesn't have a girl friend.

Guadalupe · 02/01/2009 14:04

LOL, sounds like mine except he is so bad mum's found him a flat nearby.

He's always ringing me and going on and on if I won't lend him money, he's a bloody nuisance.

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 02/01/2009 14:05

lol arent brothers delightful..lol

purepurple · 02/01/2009 14:05

he is a typical lad of his age, I have a 19 year old so I know, he spent all his wages on a 32 inch tv and then said I shouldn't charge him his board for christmas cos it's the holidays. I said I should charge him double cos he will be using more lecy and eating more food

Ashantai · 02/01/2009 14:05

To be fair, my mum still buys me an easter egg One year she forgot and i whinged all day, lol.

He was probably hungover, and i'd be ticked off with baby annabell crying too,

Not cool that he tried to tell off your daughter tho, which is probably the only thing i'd be miffed with.

Shoshe · 02/01/2009 14:32

Oh God, he reminds me of DS at 18.

In fact he reminds m of all DS's friends at 18.

18 year old boys are like that.

They are sooooooooooooo much worse than 18 year old girls.

Thankfully they do eventually grow out of it.

But they take a lot longer than girls.

DS is now a lovely grown man.

Your next words should have been "Listen you ingrate, get your butt out from under that duvet and give us a decent bloody thank you or we're going home with the money".

BouncingTurtle · 02/01/2009 15:36

Pity my mum, I have twin brothers and they were both a pair of shits at 18.

Happily they are (at nearly 29) both fully employed, productive members of society.
They've even toned down the Neo-Nazi tendencies

mumeeee · 02/01/2009 21:26

A lot of 18 year olds are like that.
