to think that if you like a baby name you shouldn't worry if a celeb has used it?

Is it just me or is worrying about whether a celeb has used a baby name you like a waste of time?

Surely it's only an issue if you have the same last name too?

i just don't understand it.

Its come from the fact that whenever there seems to be a baby name thread there are always people who are put off by names simply because someone famous has used them.

I like Jude for a girl but then it's a family name.

I wonder if myleene still pronounces the babies name, Arva or whether it is Ava now? When she had just had the baby a presenter announced the name and Myleene corrected her saying, Arva quite pointedly. Since then i have heard other people pronouncing it the usual way....??

I really think it depends which celeb you're talking about! Must admit I was put off using Lila after people kept saying to me "Oh like Kate Moss' daughter?"

I love that name but felt all of a sudden like I'd be "copying" her which was a shame because I'd liked the name for years since it was from a book my husband gave me years ago.

But also I didn't choose it because I thought of how Moss' daughter might be all over the papers when mine is a teenager for wild shenanigans like her mum, and it occurred to me it might be a bit like being called Jade when the Big Brother Jade was all over the papers, or Peaches now! Anyway I chickened out...

We have a Clementine, the older population are correct in thinking that we named her after the great lady, Clementine Churchill, the younger and somewhat less informed think she is a small orange eaten at Christmas time.... >sigh

Lotster · 01/01/2009 23:22

That's a lovely name, makes me think of the song you probably have to put up with all the time from the older ones! "Oh ma darlin, oh ma darlin...."

ScottishMummy · 01/01/2009 23:24

lotser,i do believe you have called me "somewhat less informed"

BlueBumedFly · 01/01/2009 23:25

Lobster - thank you. Yes, a few people still do sing but DD thinks that is really funny. I don't mind, when we named her a few older relatives said 'Oh, but what about the song' but so few people know if now it is not a problem. And I love it !!

BlueBumedFly · 01/01/2009 23:26

ScottishMummy - ha ha, not unless you are thinking along the small orange fruit line ..... singing is just fine with us

ScottishMummy · 01/01/2009 23:32

Woah Cry-Baby! that takes me back, i'm gonna have to rummage through my video's and blow the dust off to watch it now

Frankly, unless the childs name is something outrageously stupid like apple or fifitrixabelle, i have no idea what slebs call their offspring. If i like a name, then i use it

BlueBumedFly · 02/01/2009 10:00

Scottish mummy, my apologies, I knew that last glass of port was a bad idea!!! That is what comes of having to play 8 games of cludo back to back with dds!!
