the dcs have too many as it is, but my grandparents keep on buying them, is it mean to ask them to get book or something else instead.
anyone else i would tell em straight but i wouldnt want to upset dear old grandparents.

also if i do tll em how should i say it?

Get some pop up baskets for them - ikea have some that fit in loads - you really wont notice them.

stitch · 01/01/2009 13:33

i cant stand cuddly toys.
they never get played with, and just take up space.

drpumpkinbread · 01/01/2009 13:35

one or twos ok, but this is getting silly

you could ask politely, but if they're anything like my PILs, don't expect them to listen.

don't say that the cuddly toys aren't wanted, just mention that your DC are really into eg books, and perhaps they could get one of these next time if they saw something nice and cheap.

drpumpkinbread · 01/01/2009 13:35

pb yes that's what i was thinking

DrPumpkin -- I don't think YABU, but I have no idea how you ask tactfully. You could get one of the storage baskets and arrange for your GPs to see just how overflowing it is, maybe?

Do they actually play with them all? DD probably has about 80 and she really does play with ALL of them.

But other types of toys she doesn't play with or would never miss, so I can gradually cull some out and send to charity shop from time to time.

hercules1 · 01/01/2009 13:36

I would tell them that one of teh children has an allergy to dustmites and you've been told sadly to get rid of all the cuddly toys as they harbour mites.

prettybutterfly · 01/01/2009 13:38

I probably wouldn't mention it, really, unless the DCs get few enough presents for it to stand out. If you have zillions of rellies all buying I'd just let it slide.

But if the kids are getting then maybe just mention at the beginning of Dec that they're really getting into their books. Or something. But expect to be ignored!

Take loads to the charity shop to make space for next year's!

(And feel lucky you aren't getting flamed like the OP on another 'crap gift' thread )

I'm afraid I was horrid enough to 'tell' MIL not to get any more soft toys, not that it had any effect mind you! DD is 9 now and MIL will still give her the odd one. We have taken hundreds of soft toys straight down the charity shop otherwise we'd have to build an extension to hold them. DD has a few old favourites and the rest are dumped unceremoniously.

Ashantai · 01/01/2009 16:06

You are so NBU! My kids must have at least 100 cuddly toys that they wont let me give away!

I never want to see another cuddly toy IN MY LIFE!!!

They take up space which they need for all the other crap stuff in their room, but the only thing they let me get rid of, was a little penguin thing they got from Maccie Ds!!

Please try to steer your gps away from the cuddly toys unless you want to drown in them like i am!

nickschick · 01/01/2009 16:14

Did anybody else think the gp=the doctor??

I clicked on this thread thinking my kids are lucky to get a sticker of our g.p

Sassyfrassy · 01/01/2009 16:22

I told the grandparents that we'd rather they didn't get the children more soft toys as they had huge amount, and to my great relief they said sure and bought them other stuff instead =) I am blessed with pil that take heed of what I say though.
