DD is 11 months.
We never expected to be able to go out this New Year but 2 days ago my parents had their plans cancelled and offered to babysit.
Initially we could not get in at the restaurant that all our friends are going to so we said no but thank you.
Yesterday the restaurant had a cancellation and we were added to our friends booking.
My parents said that they would prefer to have her at their house, fine by us, we are taking her and picking her up tomorrow at 930am as they are going out tomorrow.
However, she is not well. She has a cold and is teething and has woken at least twice a night for the last week.
She is comfortable with them at their house so I dont have any issue with that, but its more about my parents having to get up in the night and it maybe ruining their new years day??
But they are going to New Zealand for 3 weeks mid January so New Years day is not a biggie for them.
I have told them that she may wake and they sound a bit
My parents are young, 50.
What would you do? Let DD go or call it off?

Go!

meep · 31/12/2008 13:33

definitely go!

(my dd sleeps llike an angel at my Mum and Dad's - even if she's been up through the night with us for days beforehand)

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/12/2008 13:34

go and enjoy

it wont kill your parents to have maybe one sleepless night if dd does wake up

bratnav · 31/12/2008 13:34

Go, if your parents can't cope they can always call you home, unless the restaurant is the other side if the country....

wingandprayer · 31/12/2008 13:34

go, definitely. Make sure you send calpol olbas oil etc and they will be fine. They must know there's a risk of her being disturbed and have offered anyway.

Very envious- have a great night!!!

countingto10 · 31/12/2008 13:35

Dose her with Calpol and go and enjoy yourselves while you can - she couldn't be in better hands than her grandparents who love her. Don't worry about her disturbing their sleep - it's only for one night.

findtheriver · 31/12/2008 13:36

Go!! They have offered willingly! Lucky you!

pamelat · 31/12/2008 13:36

Oh thank you everyone, I was wondering if it was really selfish of me to go. But probably won't get out on New Year again for 15 years!

Parents and PILs have both looked after DS for a single night when he was up every few hours. Both said that they knew it was only for one night so it was manageable - they both knew they'd have a good sleep the next night to make up for it!

bubblagirl · 31/12/2008 13:41

my son was same age few years back teething etc and we went my mum and dad wrerent fased about it as they had bought us up so know what it can be like and as my mum said i can sleep in every other day its only one night

go and enjoy we havent gone out last 3 yrs just got champagne and nibbles in but if my mum offered we'd be off like a shot lol

its one night you'll probably find it difficult to get the offer again on a new yr so take it and enjoy

DoubleBluff · 31/12/2008 13:42

Go go go and have a fab time!

Divvy · 31/12/2008 13:45

We are having our Granddaughter over tonight, I just hope the local fireworks dont wake her up, or my own litle ones.

ps...if we really didnt want her we wouldnt have agreed...grandchildren are great, and you get to hand them back the next day!

Go have a good night

pamelat · 31/12/2008 13:53

thank you again, and go on you Divvy! I never expected baby sitting offers on new year!

Of couse, go.

When my children have their own families, I hope that the very least I can do for them is to allow them some time together to celebrate. And I would positively relish having my garndchild to myself for a few hours.

Have a fab night, and raise a glass to your very supportive and kind parents. Lucky you!!

pamelat · 31/12/2008 14:02

you're making me all emotional, goodness knows what I will be like at midnight. Dh keeps saying "its the last day of the year that you were born DD" and I am having to hold back tears!!

Thank you, logging off now to make myself presentable - it may take a long long time!!

I knew there was a reason that I bought a knitted dress from the sales the other week!

Oh don't Pamela. It's the last day of the year that my DD was born as well but I hadn't thought of that

Have a great night!

mumeeee · 31/12/2008 17:07

Let her go and have a great night out.

nappyaddict · 31/12/2008 17:22

As long as you have told your parents she is waking twice a night and to ring you if they need you then YANBU.

NancysGarden · 31/12/2008 17:30

Lucky lucky you do it!!

naturalbornmum · 31/12/2008 17:37

OrmIrian · 31/12/2008 17:39

pamelat · 01/01/2009 12:22
