She was playig with it yesterday. It hasn't been since. I asked her this morning if she knew where had it last.

She replied "Yes I got bored of the music so I threw it somewhere"

She is 5. IMO she should have more respect for my things than that. She is aware that it would cost a lot money to replace .

She has been up there an hour and it still hasn't turned up. She is now saying it landed on a bag of old baby clothes that DH moved so he must have it. I have looked in the baby clothes and it's not there.

so you et her listen to music on it then?
I would go and help her look for it and then explain that she can't listen to music on it any moe as she doesn't look after it properly

mrsnosy · 30/12/2008 13:23

But maybe it isn't upstairs, so if you make her stay upstairs till she finds it she'll be there forever.

happynewRia · 30/12/2008 13:23

is it turned off? you could ring yourself (I have to do this often)

HSMM · 30/12/2008 13:25

If she's anything like my DD, she'll never find it, even if it's in her hand!

Annya · 30/12/2008 13:27

Only if it's upstairs

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 30/12/2008 13:27

Yup no batteries. Yeah I let her use the music feature on it sometimes and there is a pet dog game she plays.

I am fairly sure it is still upstairs. DH would have told me if he found it while he was sorting the old baby clothes.

I know I am dumb lettinmg her play with it but I honestly believed that she was responsible enough. She looks after her ds and puts it away when she is finished with it.

I think if she's been looking for an hour she's not gonna find it.

Have you ever watched a 5 year old looking for something? They stand in the middle of the room, turn their head to the left, then to the right, then say "I can't find it"

Miyazaki · 30/12/2008 13:39

of course you are. she's five. you are the wally for letting her play with it.

that's what I say to myself on an almost daily basis.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 30/12/2008 13:47

No she is looking properly I have checked she is actually moving things and looking under them and crawling under the drawers etc.

She can't stay up there all day anyway she has to go dancing in half an hour and I have no choice but to take her as we are short a dress, two pieces of ribbon and two pairs of shoes and this is the last chance I have to get them before i am forced to spend two hours in hell dress rehearsals start.

lol mrsnosy

YABU She's been up there for an hour - if she finds it now it will be through pure chance. You have made your point to her - making her stay up there any longer is fruitless and a bit mean.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 30/12/2008 13:59

I am going to get her now to take her dancing and then she is sleeping out so I guess she won'y be finding it. It could be anywhere known dd1. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns up in the fridge/freezer.

I have just been back up. She has found it and she is dressed for dancing, has dressed dd2 for dancing and this is the best bit she has ............................................................................................. .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ...............

started tidying my bedroom

She wants a cushion from Tesco and wasn't allowed yesterday because she wandered off to find them on her own and got lost.

they usually remember where they put things but only when they're ready to remember. nephew does this all the time with different things (usually a favourite toy he wants right now and throws a tantrum because he can't find it) and eventually he'll suddenly toddle off somewhere and come back with what he was looking for.

mumeeee · 30/12/2008 16:08

YABU. She is only 5. You should go and help her look for it.

squik · 30/12/2008 16:33

Yabu and you know it. Its like ds he got £40 for Xmas, and We left it on the Table, it went missing (in the dustbin as it happens) But that was my fault for not being careful.
I wouldn't let a 5 yr old use a mobile as a toy.

OrmIrian · 30/12/2008 16:34

Blimey! Is she still there?

AuntieMaggie · 30/12/2008 16:37

No she found it 2 and a half hours ago - read the posts will ya? :O

OrmIrian · 30/12/2008 16:39

So she has! Well done small seashell.

What does mean?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 30/12/2008 17:13

It means that she will get the cushion next time we go to Tesco

glad phone was found but if you dont want your phone broken/lost then dont let a 5yr play with it, so think ywbu to make her look for it alone as you gave it to her

mobile phones are not toys

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 30/12/2008 17:24

Im not really bothered if gets accidentally broken or lost. That's why it is insured. It was when she told me that she deliberately threw it somewhere because she didn't want it anymore that I got mad.

If she had said "Sorry I don't remember where I put it." I would have been irritated but not annoyed with her
