Im due my first bub in April,

We live in a 1 bed flat, but have shared outside space, ive wanted a puppy/dog since I was little.

Im aware they are alot of work, but i would have time to look after it properly. Dh wants to wait and let the baby settle in. He also thinks its unfair to have both at once as they both need undivided attention.

The reason im asking is they are giving them away for free, saw an add on a website, dh would not be amused if i did it without telling him..

Am I naive.. mad.. Unreasonable?

xx

i would say dont do it too much work what with baby coming its harder than having a baby a puppy wait we always want the cuteness but when we realise how much hard work on top of havinga baby it wouldnt be fair on puppy as will need all your time and so will baby

puppy will need undevided attention and training you will habve new baby needing all your attention you will be tired puppy will be going mad if bored in small flat not fair not yet until you have more time and baby is older

I would say don't do it too
My dog was 1 when dd was born and that was just about manageable. I think you would regret it and resent the time the dog took away from concentrating on your new baby

On the other hand it does ensure you get out every day and talk to people and give you a bit of focus other than just on the baby.

1 bed flat would be crowded and no garden of your own down sides too - what do you do when your pup needs a poo and you have only just settled the baby and your neighbours aren't happy with dog poo in the garden for eg?

i would wait tbh. i have two dogs (the youngest was 2 when DS1 was born) and they loved him unconditionally because they were settled as my dogs and have taken to both DSs because of me. however i watch my friends dog one day a week and she is 6months old and housetrained but because she's a puppy she is hard work around the boys and i have to watch them all constantly. also being a puppy she is not happy just to lie in her bed during the day when the boys are causing devastation whereas my dogs know that come 6pm i am all theirs and the lounge floor is their territory . remember that the dog will deserve your attention just as your baby does so maybe wait until your LO is old enough to help out.

Sorry - this will be no help to you, but we did it the other way round and got puppy year before baby, puppy then 10 months old and all grown up and responsible, but still loads of fun, when baby arrived. Dog now 15, DS2 is 14 and they have been best of mates from day 1. Perhaps you could think of doing this once you are settled and before you have DC 2?
