Dp has been ill over the last year.At one point he was hospitalised for several months.

He stopped smoking during this time but in the last few weeks has started again.About 15-20 per day!.I am SOOO mad with him.He currently has a CI and is on a nebuliser, and last night was wheezing away.I have tried since last night to get him to go to docs as am concerned about the wheeze. As well asa grotty chest he has had previous embolisms both pulmonary and DVT and is on warfarin.I am concerned that 1) He may be exacerbating his CI by smoking,2) He is SOBOE,just going up the stairs is making him wheeze,is a poor colour and has pain, which is making me wonder if it is possible he could potentially have thrown off another clot.HE WILL NOT LISTEN!

Another more minor grumble is that his condiion has affected his hearing, which obviously he cannnot help but he has the tv on full blast. For the last 2 nights I have gone to bed to try to get an early night and he has come into our room, put the tv on really loud and shouted at me when I have pointed out he has woken me up.

I am tired and close to tears. How do i get this stubborn man to see sense?

YANBU, of course. Not sure what to suggest. Very odd self-destructive behaviour.

Could you make an appointment for him? If you did, would he go?

wrinklytum · 27/12/2008 21:17

I have tried to persuade him.I think he is feeling quite down about his condition but is not helping himselfHe has recently had his steroids increased which is making him quiter antsy.I think I will ring GP tommorow come hell or high water. It is so frustrating

Wrinkly, do you think he might be a bit confused? A poor colour, shortness of breath and an attitude of unreasonableness might mean his oxygen levels are low?

wrinklytum · 27/12/2008 21:58

I think that he could be a little hypoxic,he is also on opiates(lONG TERM) for pain, but his pupils are not pinprick or anything.it is a vicious circle with everything. If he worsens tonight I will call out of hours. He is so determined not to be hospitalised over NY.:

YANBU, to answer your OP, but his behaviour must be bloody worrying for you. Maybe rephrase your title and repost this is Health, and you'll get more answers?

Hassled · 27/12/2008 22:11

in Health

Obviously DH is very unwell at the moment. When he starts to feel better and decides to continue smoking, perhaps remind him how he's DC would feel without their father in their life.

jalopy · 27/12/2008 22:13

Wrinkly, how awful for you.

He has a complicated health history. Def needs to stop smoking to allow his chest to recover.

Hospital might be the right place for him at the moment even though he doesn't agree. Sounds like he needs to be properly assessed. I would call dr tonight if his colour doesn't improve.

solidgoldstuffingballs · 27/12/2008 22:22

I appreciate that this is miserable, worrying and maddening for you but the bottom line is that he is an adult and it's his responsibility to take care of his health - or not to. Tell him once that you are unhappy with his behaviour and the risks he is taking then stop dealing with it in any way other than you absolutely have to (ie if he has some kind of a crisis call an ambulance if necessary, but don't run round after him or check up on him).

wrinklytum · 27/12/2008 22:26

Tahnks all.I will stop being mother hen and intervene if he starts to turn blue He is sleeping now so will sit down here with him for a while to keep an eye.Luckily dcs have been great tonight.Just checked them both sleeping soundly.
