mine will come down (well the ones that haven't fallen down from the ceiling) on the 12th day of Christmas.........

higgle · 27/12/2008 20:42

Christmas does not end until 5 January, Decorations should go up just before Christmas and stay up until 5th.

Moondancer · 27/12/2008 20:50

Ours will be down NYE at the very latest. Once christmas day is past I think the decorations just look sad. Twelfth night would be far too late for me!

randomxmas · 27/12/2008 20:54

I love my house trimmed up - always feel sad when it's time to take it all down.

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 27/12/2008 20:58

ours will come down probably on the 2nd onle because its dd2s birthday on the 5th and already usually have decorations up for dd1s bday on the 16th dec

YANBU - take them down and rejoice that the time of the year when people are the most stressed/depressed/skint,about to divorce posting moany AIBU's on mumsnet is OVER. Long live the new year - xmas is over.

Our tree was starting to drop needles everywhere.

My nearly-2-yr-old niece came round today, and gave the tree a good shaking trying to get the chocolates off, and the lower branches were starting to look naked and silly. So we took it down this evening.

We've seen all the relatives now, and my mum is going home tomorrow, so we will then get Christmas packed away and give the house a thorough clean, before going away for a few days at the end of next week.

piscesmoon · 27/12/2008 22:22

Christmas isn't over-I haven't had all my Christmas visitors yet! My tree was still growing 8 days ago so hasn't lost any needles.

LucyEllensmummy · 27/12/2008 22:42

OCh, you are Bah Humbug - I hate it when you go out after boxing day and people dont have their tacky lights on in the garden, it reminds me that xmas is over.

squik · 27/12/2008 23:00

12 days of christmas and all that means the tree should come down on the 6th.

solidgoldstuffingballs · 27/12/2008 23:04

Depends if you are taking them down as a Grand Gesture (Christmas is over! You've ruined it!) and know that other people in your household will be upset.
Personally I wouldn;t before New Year's Day as I kind of think of the decorations as being there from solstice to new year.

AugustusGloop · 27/12/2008 23:04

God yes get them down

Astarte · 27/12/2008 23:11

Ooh I didn't see this and just started a thread asking exactly the same thing.

Mine are coming down tomorrow definitely. With the exception of the main tree which might make it to New Year.

I need my house back!

piscesmoon · 28/12/2008 10:16

If you put up your decorations weeks before Christmas, of course you want your house back! If you wait until Christmas you actually have time to sit down and enjoy them! If I put them up on Christmas Eve I most certainly don't want them down when we have just started Christmas!
