to think the ending of 'The Snowman' is too sad?

Fair enough, snowmen inevitably melt. But the poor boy is so lonely, living in the middle of nowhere with no siblings or friends to play with. Even his parents don't join him to play in the snow. (sob)

Wouldn't it be nice if some friends could arrive to play with him at the end?

Have you been drinking?

mrsdisorganised · 24/12/2008 17:19

Still makes me cry....far too emotional!

mediocrebronze · 24/12/2008 17:21

yup I cried

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/12/2008 17:39

I just watched it for the first time in years. I remember there being narration though (or was that just the cassette tape version that I had?) but there was no talking at all. Poor memory, or is there another version?

made me cry loads!

expatinscotland · 24/12/2008 17:52

try to watch the Irn Bru Snowman advert instead.

trust me, the only tears you'll be crying at the end will be tears of laughter.

Guadalupe · 24/12/2008 17:54

That ad is hysterical, 'he took my iron brew, and let go of my hand', tra la la la.

Was it on today? We always miss it.

Pixel · 24/12/2008 18:00

We rented the video of The Snowman when dd was very small. She sobbed her heart out when the snowman melted, so much so that we had to rewind it and say "look he's ok now".
I've got the dvd this year to put in her stocking but as she's 12 now I'm hoping we won't have a repeat performance .

mrsmaidamess · 24/12/2008 18:04

We watch The Snowman every Christmas Eve. I know its sad, but he's got his scarf from Father Christmas...and he can always build another one

PLUS Don't forget he went on to become International Megastar, Dame David of Bowie.

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/12/2008 18:19

Aled Jones didn't sing 'Walking in the Air' in the film, it was some other boy. I always thought he did.

expatinscotland · 24/12/2008 18:23

it usually comes on in the evening, Guad.

i love it when he sings, 'I wonder where I'm going to land . . .'

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 24/12/2008 18:34

Yes - whenever I hear that tune now I hear 'He nicked my Iron Brew, and let go of my hand...' snigger.

scifinerd · 24/12/2008 18:37

We also had big problems when our dd saw it. She was very upset and I had to make up a whole new ending. It took ages to pacify her. But I don't blame her, it makes me cry too. IMO too sad for children. But maybe if we showed it back to back with the father xmas one it would be ok. Thank goodness the snowman returns

jollyholly · 24/12/2008 19:19

So is Father Christmas on soon then? DD2 cried at the end of it this afternoon.

never seen the irnbru one, fantastic

Yanda · 27/12/2008 19:13

DD 2.6 loved watching the snowman this year. She was not bothered by the ending though just laughed and said look he is a wet puddle now mummy!

Batfink1975 · 29/01/2018 20:51

It always makes me cry. I don’t remember crying as a child but it gets me going once they start the run up to lift off. We watched this Christmas and I left the room before I got emotional. I can only watch in private and have a good blub.
