To think that even one member of my team might have said thank you to me...

...for taking them all out for a Christmas lunch? OK, so it was nowhere fancy, just a pub lunch (their choice), but I paid and not one of them had the courtesy to say thanks. One asked "What's the damage?" and I said it was my treat and she just said "Oh cool."

Or am I an old fuddy duddy who doesn't understand modern manners (or lack of)?

I usually buy them a small Christmas gift - wine and chocolates, but was so cross over this, I didn't bother this year.

I think the thing is though MrsS that those on a lower salary think that managers earn bags of money and live it up all year round.

I used to get annoyed when I managed a small team and was single so paying all bills by myself and only earning a little bit more than them, had to pick up taxi costs on lunch out and then was told off for not paying a sufficiently large tip.

They don't appreciate that in reality for some people the difference in salary is very small.

Next year I'd go for a present or arrange a lunch but let people pay for themselves and buy the wine or something.

But yes do feel free to remember the gesture at appraisal time.

YANBU. It's graceless. I was pretty confident my old managers were on at least 5 times as much as me at a conservative estimate (senior equity partners in a law firm!) but would always say thanks for this sort of gesture.

How rude of them .

I've had a few gifts from colleagues and managers - they were all thanked and I really appreciate it being as only one of them is my manager.

Mind the manager who got £100 from one of their staff in their Christmas Card are going to have their overtime allocations next year checked .

grr, that is very rude
