freinds of ours of 18 years. We have known the husband for much longer than the wife.
Lovely LOVELy friends and we think allot of them.

any way i went up to visit recently ,and while there, their baby girl was needing a nap so the wife took her up leaving me and the hubby alone in the living room chatting.
The wifes mother (bit of a Mrs Bucket type) comes in through the door and stops dead, looks at us both, and announces
"oh, fancy you being here alone, mind you i always thought that there was something going on between you two"

wtf???

LOL

Presumably she was joking?

GentleOtter · 21/12/2008 18:22

Had she had a little too much sherry trifle?

deanychip · 21/12/2008 18:22

Was she being ironic? What did the hubby say?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 21/12/2008 18:24

mad old bint

errr, is there any truth in it

sticksantaupyourchimney · 21/12/2008 18:25

Sounds like a loon. Has she loopy religious views about men and women never being allowed to speak to each other without a chaperone? Or is she someone who once had a cheating DP/DH and therefore judges everyone by her own unfortunate experiences?

Overmydeadbody · 21/12/2008 18:25

is she very batty?

how odd. Reminds me of the grandmother in that film, what was it called? where she just spoke her mind and thumped the piano?

pamelat · 21/12/2008 18:27

sounds like she is judging by her own standards

deanychip · 21/12/2008 18:32

he just shook his head and carried on talking.

im really offended because what if my dh had been there, that could have cause an almighty row!
Also we both love them both to bits...like a brother and sister. never even thought of him like that, feel uncomfortable hugging him to say goodbye now, in case some one reads something into it.
What if the whiole family are thinking this but not saying anything???

louii · 21/12/2008 18:32

Well if you and him are sitting there naked what do you expect really??

cornsilk · 21/12/2008 18:33

SparklyBaubleFeast · 21/12/2008 18:34

deanychip · 21/12/2008 18:36

SparklyBaubleFeast · 21/12/2008 18:39

they can't have helped thematter, i am with mrs bucket on this

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/12/2008 18:41

Does the wife know about her actions if not would def get in contact with her and "bring it up" so the mad old bint can't start shit stirring......

If they are your friends nad they presumably know what she's like better to talk and laugh about it than ignore completely.

Not quite sure how you would start the conversation tho' " do you realise your mother is barking" is probably not the way to go!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/12/2008 18:42

lol at nipple tassles

sticksantaupyourchimney · 21/12/2008 18:43

Why would it have caused a row if your DH had been there? Is your DH jealous of your friendhsip with the other husband?

deanychip · 21/12/2008 18:46

no dh not at all jealous, he has been friends with the hubby for 20 years or more, it would never have crossed his mind. (meant if it were someone else, it could have cause trouble between them)

At the time i did mention it to the wife and she jsut laughed it off, convincingly that she thought it was funny and daft.

aam · 21/12/2008 18:47

Don't worry. If the whole family thought this you would have got the hint by now!

Also friend wouldn't leave you alone with her husband if she thought you were up to something.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/12/2008 18:51

she ob knows what her mothers like your poor friend what a nightmare of a MIL

AMIStletoekiss · 21/12/2008 18:53

I think if the DH just shook his head and carried on talking to you, they're well aware of this battiness. Unless you were sitting in his lap at the time, I'd leave it well alone.

deanychip · 21/12/2008 18:57

true!!

I am annoyed because she has made a great friendship uncomfortable with one nasty remark!

will ignore her completely and avoid her in the future.
