When they patently haven't got flu or they wouldn't be able to get out of bed, let alone be posting on the tinterwebnet?

A cold is not flu!
A viral illness is not necessarily flu!

Thank you. As you were.

I had what they called Asian flu when I was seven. Awful - not only couldn't get out of bed but was pretty well out of it all the time anyway. I remember waking up on the sofa feeling half-human again, trying to stand up to go to the loo and being so weak my legs crumbled under me.

I knew I'd been VERY ill because my mummy brought me a box of chocolates all to myself.

i've had flu once in my adult life. i have no idea of how many days i spent in bed in darkness with dh making me drink and giving me paracetamol 4hourly, but it was quite a few days. it fwelt like my eyes were being poked with red hot needles, i could barely lift my head off the pillow. i was off work for ages with that.

dh has had it twice (once around the time i had it, he bounced back quicker than me, was only ill for a week), and the other time it almost killed him. thats what led to his illness and subsequent heart transplant. he has scared me this week as was very ill for two days, barely getting out of bedm temp shooting back up before next dose of co-codamol (he cant have ibruprofen as he has kidney and liver problems now), but i8s up and about today pottering around, eating and watching dvd's with the kids.

perhaps 7 is the age to get it! I spent my 7th Christmas in bed with 'flu, was carried downstairs to be with everyone for Christmas dinner but couldn't actually eat any, and then had to go straight back to bed - I don't remember when or how the presents got opened, but I was way too out of it to join in with that bit!

only dd2 has actually had flu out of my kids. when she was a year old. was very scary and worrying. was a big epidemic at the time (end of 2003?) and it was all over the papers.

we all get annual flu jabs now (dh, dd1 and dd2 as they are classed as vunerable, dd3 and myself as a precuation to help keep dh out of flu's way)

Has anybody mentioned the Dean Gaffney flu theory yet? As posted on MN a few weeks back (by someone far wittier than me)..

When you've got REAL flu, if Dean Gaffney told you he could make you feel better, you might.

I rang Thames Doc yesterday, explained I need to knock this on the head before my Dad gets here. Also pointed out that I had a heart condition, you could hear her just ticking the boxes and mentally saying.....yeah yeah.

Medication ? says she...

Losartan Frosemide Cardicor Omacor and Aspirin daily...says I.

Ok you can have the first appointment this morning...

flu jag -worth paying for!

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 21/12/2008 13:22

Seemingly I don't need the flu jab, though after this dose I may inist.

My Dad is a walking miracle, he failing but so slowly that he has the consultants confused.

I am now seeing the cardiologist on a regular basis and will be fine. I promise.

So stop worrying and go back to enjoying your yummy baby.

expatinscotland · 21/12/2008 13:23

luckily, my dad doesn't have allergies.

but with a heart condition and hypertension he has a laundry list of meds.

misdee · 21/12/2008 13:23

no bree you must get the flu jab. you are classed as vunerable due to your heart, so please do insist to have it.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 21/12/2008 13:24

And ......................this is unheard of....I got into bed yesterday morning at 10.00 and have barely been out of it.

So I am looking after myself.

friendless · 21/12/2008 13:25

I may have had flu when I was about 2 - my Mum said I was very ill with high temp and hallucinating. Other than that, I don't think I've ever had flu. Guess I've been very lucky (so far...)
