Never mind the excuses (his or yours) or the fact that you have children together or share a house. Once a twat always a twat. Never mind giving him a chance to roll out the sorry story. He's never going to change and you need to realise that!

I think it depends on whether it changes your view of them as a person.

One long term partner was always a bit of a lad, bad boy type. If I had discovered that he had an affair I might be upset but it wouldnt change my view ofthe person I had fallen in love with (shit though he was). A differnt partner was a very upright honest and family oriented man (rebound from teh other one!!) - if he had cheated I would have been completely devastated I would have wondered who the hell he was as the man I loved couldn;t have done anything like that therefore he wasnt the man I loved and the relationship would have been unrecoverable.

You never know how you are going to feel until it happens to you. I'm now happier with dh, and with a better relationship. I don't regret giving him, and our family a second chance. I don't think he is a "twat" just for a while he behaved very badly. I am also aware of those reasons, and take responsibility for some things in our relationship that weren't working (not this this provided him with justification, but it contributed to the situation we found ourselves in). But yes some people (men and women) do seriously let down their families again and again, and there comes a point when you have to recognise that they are unlikely to change.
