To cancel nurse appt and take DD to nursery Christmas party?

DD is 2.4 and has been ill this week, with a cold/flu thing that has been doing the rounds here. I thought she was better yesterday with just the cough left so she went to nursery, but they called me a couple of hours later asking to give her calpol as they said she had a temperature. I went and collected her. I then made an appointment with the nurse to have her checked over today because she was still running a bit of a temp. The only appointment was at 3.15pm which was fine.

Well today, DD has woken up and she seems much better, still slightly croaky but eating again and running around. I'm not sure she needs to see the nurse anymore and I don't want to use up an appointment that someone might really really need. Also it is the nursery Christmas party today at 2.30pm and DD has been quite excited about going. I haven't mentioned it to her today as I'm not sure she can go but now I am umming and ahhing as she seems better, I will be there with her anyway so can take her home if its all too much and its also the last time she will go to nursery until the new year so it will give her a chance to say bye.

So AIBU to cancel the nurse and take her to the party?

if you think she's better yANBU, take her to the party.

I think she is better, but I thought she was yesterday too! I'm worried that if I cancel the nurse I might regret it later

Also if the nursery might be abit as I collected her early. I don't want to spread horrible bugs around before xmas.

if she's 2 then missing one party won't matter. She may be ok first thing this morning but flag again later. If she were ill enough to be sent home I doubt she's really fit yet.

Hmmm. Difficult one.

Young children have a nasty habit of bouncing off the walls one minute and then sleepy a feverish the next when they have coldy virus things.

With the weekend coming up I would be inclined to keep the appointment at least until a bit later in the day. Emergency doctor appointments at the weekend are not fun!

If it was yesterday that you collected her then I wouldnt be worried about taking her in today if she seems up to it.
Nurseries dont usually expect children with colds to be kept off.
If it is just a cold there isnt a lot a nurse will be able to help you with, so unless you are worried it is more than that then you will probably feel like you wasted your time in going.

my DD is 2.2 and had same thing..one day she was running a temp and not well at all, next day she was right as rain but snotty and tired, and she is still better...I would take her in if she is better!!!

Well, I'm just thinking that perhaps it has gone on her chest abit, but she doesn't sound wheezy or anything so its more PFB precautionary

i agree that YANBU to take her the party. i would cancel the appointment unless you think it may be more than a cold. my DD has had a cold the past week and has been up and down temp wise- one minute fine the next feverish and whimpery so if you feel she is better then i would take her the party as if she is ill there you can always take her home as you said you may be wasting an appointment that could be used for someone really in need of one
i would give her some calpol about 30 mins before you leave for the party though so she has some fever cover and is more likely to enjoy the party without the headache etc that comes with a cold
xx ei xx

If you feel you still need to take her, even just precatuionary, she shouldn't go to the party

cmotdibbler · 19/12/2008 09:41

All the children in DS's class at nursery are up and down with this cold - I collected him early yesterday as he had a temp and they had given him calpol and it hadn't come down. He was at home for 45 minutes before running round like a loon again. He's at nursery today, and they were fine about that.

So I'd take her to the party, esp as you'll be there too

Ok, well she has managed to help me sort out the kitchen cupboards so I think she is feeling much better than she did, I have cancelled the appointment and she is going to the party.

I will give her calpol just before, good idea ei

Thanks everyone!
