ScottishMummy · 18/12/2008 22:32

whereas i get the little woman to post once,or i chastise her and assert my despotic nature

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 22:34

I'm really not. I have no idea what I am or what my friends are.
i just dont jusge people in those terms.

OP posts:
twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 18/12/2008 22:37

I dont judge people but I am amused by it all, I suppose as a working class person I am the bottom of the pile so who would I judge?

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 22:38

oh no i have just realised I have started a tread about clas now. Bugger!!

The concept of 'reverse' snobbery has never made sense to me. Surely if you're a snob, you're a snob whichever way you're looking? Why should toffs have exclusive ownership of it?

Doublebluff - are you telling me that if you encounter people at the extremes of their social classes you wouldn't see a 'class' difference?

Tortington · 18/12/2008 22:40

no twinset we(wc) are at the top of the pile with the upperclasses - both assured of our identity

the mcs are at the bottom with the constant aspiring.

ScottishMummy · 18/12/2008 22:40

beg to differ,we do make stereotypical/class based assumptions.mabye just find it uncomfortable to admit so

look at the dearth of
spelling/punctuation/earn £100K and struggling/gawd the feckers earn gazillions and still cant cope/oh i saw a mum in (whisper it) McDonald's

class in action

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 22:43

I said I know there are class differences.
Most of the pople I deal with are very poor.
I know I am better of than them.
I just dont understand why some people are so keen to knwo what clas they aare?
So they can reassure themsleves that they are better than another

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 22:44

Well said, ScottishMummy! Bravo!

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 22:46

But it's not just about poverty, is it? It's culture.

It's just a pity that the different cultures can't coexist without one thinking they're better than the other.

Same thing happens in the supposedly 'classless' USA. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 18/12/2008 22:48

I always find the class threads interesting, probably because I have no idea what class I am or what class I am actually classed as (if that's not too much classification for you at this time of night!) I think class is like age- you're only as high class as you feel!

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 22:48

because everyone likes to have someone to lookdown on.
Like that Two Ronnies sketch

MrsMerryHenry · 18/12/2008 22:50

I don't see why it should be such a big issue to want to know what class one is in...how is that any different from any other mode of social classification? I've always known that I'm not the coolest cat in town but at the same time I'm not a supergeek. It's just one of many ways of understanding ourselves.

ThingOne · 18/12/2008 22:51

But Double Bluff, it's always easy to find people to look down on, surely. I mean, look at all the people who wean differently from me. Surely they must be sub species as I am always right?

retiredgoth2 · 18/12/2008 22:52

....those who doubt the middle class nature of this site should check some of those I found when first I found myself a lone parent.

Have a look at this for example...

...you might wish to participate in the, er, 'quiz's' for example......

twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 18/12/2008 22:52

I actually suspect I dont have anyone to look down on, I am the most common person I know not that I have moved down south.

I think you are right custardo I am much more assured of my identity than my more m/c friends. I know who I am and just get on with it.

DoubleBluff · 18/12/2008 22:52

WEll there is no one as fabulous as I am

OP posts:
noonki · 18/12/2008 22:53

it crops up all the time on mn because class, like it or not, permenates every aspect of life,

and becomes highlighted by the choices you make as a parent.

ScottishMummy · 18/12/2008 22:55

telling divide on MN is the ole gimmers Vs Newbies.hate all the MN royalty gushing.

oldies harrumphing "not like the ole days, reminiscing MN of yore" Vs the Move along get with the programme i am ^newbie

Some on MN differentiate themselves from other sites and huns by mirth/derision at mere mention of such words
