To think the people who insist on parking opposite my drive are idiotic?

This REALLY annoys me.

We live down a narrowish road so not loads of space to move around in and the people living opposite insist on parking their 4x4, right opposite my drive way when they know full well that I use the bloody thing. Even when my car is there, they must see me struggling to get the car out of drive, revering and pulling forward repetatively just trying to avoid scratching or bumping either car.

Why would you park right opposite someone's driveway??? I wouldn't do it! would you?

It would be different if it was a massive road but it isn't, it's barely big enough for two cars to pass each other comfortably at 20mph.

It REALLY winds me up.

Sounds annoying but where else can they park?

wrapstar · 18/12/2008 19:24

So, you are annoyed that they park outside their house..... just like you do?

MoMoMoMeeeeryChristmas · 18/12/2008 19:24

Our brand new neighbours did that when they first moved in. DH reversed off the drive one dark evening and hit his car! That's one way to break the ice, I suppose! They never did it again and actually we are very good friends and neighbours now!

Most annoying though, I feel your pain.

wrapstar · 18/12/2008 19:25

It's a public road. Get over it.

BONKERZ · 18/12/2008 19:26

we have the same problem, we use our drive all the time and the neighbours opposite have a car park directly behind their house and one at the side of their house but insist on parking opposite our drive which means we cannot get out mpv in or out! They refuse to open door when we knock and are generally rude.
We contacted the council but were told that as long as car is taxed and MOTd they can park where they want, we finally got them to move and park elsewhere by writing letters to council with photos of the obstruction and also by pointing out that a fire enigine would not get down the street with their car parked on the road!

piscesmoon · 18/12/2008 19:28

You don't own the road. I was parking near a friend's house along side someone's garden wall but on a public road and they asked me not to park in 'their' bit of the road!! Parents from the school run park opposite my drive twice a day-it is very difficult to get out but they need to park somewhere.

thebrain · 18/12/2008 19:28

Have you actually told them it's a problem for you? We had a similar issue only we were the idiots . It always looked to me like the neighbours were coping fine when I watched, but clearly not. One day Mr Neighbour came storming over all guns blazing shouting about our parking. We'd had no idea it was such a problem and have since parked elsewhere (at considerable inconvenience to ourselves). If only they had come and asked nicely sooner we could have saved all the aggro.

Tell them! Nicely .

mayorquimby · 18/12/2008 20:22

you don't own the road

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 18/12/2008 20:27

Oh this winds me up no end when the people over the road do it to me. I simply tut to myself and mutter darkly in the full knowledge that it would be unreasonable of me to complain. My neighbours park overhanging my driveway too and that also irritates me but, at the end of the day, I can get my car off the drive and I always have somewhere to park so [shrug].

needmorecoffee · 18/12/2008 20:29

as long as you can get out in a medical emergency I doubt there's anything you can do.

wrapstar · 18/12/2008 20:32

I would be very unlikely to comply if someone said, 'oi, you can't park outside your house as it makes it difficult for me to park outside my house.' What on earth makes you think you have priority? If you can't manage, park somewhere else. There must BE somewhere else, otherwise you wouldn't be suggesting your neighbours should park elsewhere, surely?

wrapstar · 18/12/2008 20:32

And they aren't 'parking opposite (your) drive', they are parking outside their house.

randomxmas · 18/12/2008 20:33

Why not just park where they park?

MrsSnape · 18/12/2008 21:31

They have a driveway too! Why can't they park on the driveway and leave the road clear? I don't park on the street and never park outside their driveway. It's just common sense IMO.

here you go Mrs Snape

We have people who park right behind us in our court. Plenty of spaces, but they just want to be just that much closer to their house. Grr!!!

wrapstar · 18/12/2008 21:37

Why didn't you say they had a driveway? Most people don't.

ChubbyDickAndSnowBalls · 18/12/2008 21:51

We have the same problem and it drives us nuts! The houses opposite are situated so that opposite my drive are the 2 drives of the 2 houses across the road. The road is very very narrow too. If people park in front of the drives across from us we really struggle to get our car in/out.

We've had to knock on our neighbours door lots of times when their guests have basically blocked us in. Why wouldn't they just tell them to park in their drive or park 6 metres down the road and walk!?!?!

Yes it's a public road but a little common decency and common sense wouldn't go amiss from some people.
