To not tidy DS's bedroom for him?

Everytime DS plans on having a friend around after school I tell him to tidy up his room beforehand as quite frankly, the state of it is embarrassing. He usually doesn't bother because he knows full well that I'll do it while he's at school

Anyway, one of his friends are supposed to be coming over tonight, DS's room is a complete tip but I just can't be arsed.

AIBU to leave it a mess for his friend to see?

He's 10 btw.

YANBU.Anyway I suspect his friends' rooms will be equally messy so I doubt it'll bother him.

I bet neither of them would notice/care if it is a tip

My DC's earn their pocket money by cleaning and tidying their rooms once a week - it works really well!

MrsHappy · 18/12/2008 13:59

No. He's 10. He should tidy his own room.

YANBU. He is old enough to tidy his own room.

You could 'plant' something girlie in there - Barbie doll etc. Might embarrass him into tidying up in future!!

MrsSnape · 18/12/2008 14:04

pmsl! we have no barbie dolls in the house unfortunately

I remember he was typing a message to his friend on msn once and I distracted him with something and wrote in the message box "DS is wearing his mum's pink dressing gown". I DIDN'T press enter so the friend never saw the message...but DS came up, panicked and went to hit delete and pressed enter instead

Thankfully DS is very comfortable with himself and thought it was hilarious. The friend just replied with "what?" pmsl

I'm such a childish, embarrassing mum

(he WAS wearing my pink dressing gown at the time!)

I don't expect the friend is bothered. I just shut the door on it.

I dont think you ABU- my 2.8yo and (very nearly) 4yo keep their bedroom tidied... i admit they dont often play in their, but they normally wake at about 6.30ish and will play for half an hour before i get them up... i always pop my head in when i wake, tell them to tidy up and by time i've had a wash and put some clothes on its alwasy tidy!!
