We want to move house soon, as our current house isn't big enough for our mountains of crap treasured possessions.
So, we find a perfect sounding house on rightmove. Good price, great location, lots of space, two bathrooms (although one would be fine, really), but NO BATH. The house is newly refurbished, and from the pictures has been done very nicely as a family house. So why on earth didn't they put a bath in one of the (large) bathrooms?
I know it's not the end of the world, but our pfb loves his evening bath. I love the occasional bath.
If the house was smaller, or designed for sharers, it might make sense, but it is clearly a family house.
AIBU in thinking this it is madness not to have a bath?

Total madness in a family house - of course small children need a bath, most of them hate showers and they're totally impractical while you're still having to bath them!

Really strange as mostly baths are cheaper to install than showers. If you are really keen on it and it is newly refurbished, I might make it a condition of your offer that the developer puts in a bath - don't let them say that they will knock £x off price because there may be some reason (can't think of one off top of head) why a bath couldn't be installed...

potplant · 18/12/2008 12:12

Could be that they have made the bathrooms smaller to get two in and the consquence is that there isn't enough room for a bath.

FaintlyMacabre · 18/12/2008 12:29

Sadly it is a rental property and the price has already been reduced (maybe no-one wants it because it has NO BATH).
Glad to see it's not just me being precious about the bath -thanks!

And don't get me started on the 2 bathrooms thing -the number of tiny 2 bedroom flats I've seen with no storage, teeny kitchens and 2 bathrooms! Even more madness!

put a bath in yourself?

MerryMadMarg · 18/12/2008 13:17

I have found this too! Can't stand it. Young children absolutely need a bath, and I love a good wallow.

I even looked at one development which had a 'show flat' and did have a bath that looked rather small. Had pretty much the following conversation:

  • How big is the bath?
  • Um, why?
  • Because it looks small.
  • Well... yes... it is a bit smaller than the standard size.
  • So, how big is it?
  • Um, it's X cm. Would that be a problem (in an almost indignant tone of voice )
  • Actually, yes, it would be. I like having baths and that is far too small to have a nice relaxing bath in.
  • Would that really be a deciding factor for you? (shocked, you're a mad woman look on their face)
  • Yes it would be. I would never buy an apartment/flat that didn't have a decent sized bath in it.

Cue me leaving briskly (and then spending th next 6 months demanding that I be removed frmo their mailing list!)

YANBU. A family house needs a bath. End of story!

TLESinChristmasStockings · 18/12/2008 13:30

we have 2 bathrooms.
1 has a bath and a shower and the ensuite has a shower.

The Bath rarely gets used even ds2 prefers a shower at 15m old.

he progressed from a bowl baby bath to a shower
