I couldn't do it, would forever be looking over my shoulder and couldn't take the shame if I got caught out.

thenewme · 16/12/2008 17:06

I think you wouldn't get away with it.

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 16/12/2008 17:08

Will you be allowed to use their facilities?

thb i think yabu, you get what you pay for, not fair on the guests of the swanky hotel who have paid full price, its a bit dishonest

gingertabbywithsnowypaws · 16/12/2008 17:12

ive done it before, you can definatley get away with it.

We did this a lot while travelling around the Caribbean on a shoestring. I blagged my way into many a luxury hotel!

gingertabbywithsnowypaws · 16/12/2008 17:22

ime you don't really need to blag your way in, you just walk straight in.

llareggub · 16/12/2008 17:23

Blag wrong word.

Swanning in looking like we owned the place more accurate!

snickersnack · 16/12/2008 17:24

Depends what you mean by use the facilities. Book and pay for a spa appointment, or buy a drink in the bar - fine, why not. I don't think hotel business models generally work on the basis that room rates subsidise those sorts of things, so you're paying the going rate, which is fair. Plus most hotels are quite happy for you to do that, IME.

Use the pool and the free towels, or the lunch buffet - not fine, you haven't paid for it. Those sorts of things are often monitored anyway.

crokky · 16/12/2008 17:29

I think it's a bit much really.

I don't mind if, say, you have paid for bed and breakfast and make your lunch out of the breakfast buffet - that is sort of stretching what you've paid for. What you're suggesting, however, is just taking/using things you haven't paid for at all. Overall, I think it's dishonest.

CountessDracula · 16/12/2008 17:33

We have done this many times while travelling when we fancied a bit of luxury for an afternoon. However we just asked if we could pay a day rate to use the facilities - in Asia etc it costs virtually nothing and quite a few places said as long as we bought drinks we could use the pool etc

gingertabbywithsnowypaws · 16/12/2008 17:41

i only mean use the pool when paying for lunch drinks etc.

not going in for a free buffett lunch

CountessDracula · 16/12/2008 17:47

I think as long as you ask it is fine

CountessDracula · 16/12/2008 17:47

Also how do you know they won't ask for your room no when you order?

gingertabbywithsnowypaws · 16/12/2008 19:54

they never have before
