To give my brother's girlfriend an xmas present from our 'regifting' box?

We've got a box that we call our 'regifting' box which is presents we've been given in the past that we don't like/don't want/don't need. It includes various toiletry type sets (posh bubble bath etc) that I was given after I had dd and can't use because loads of products give me a rash. Anyway, I was going to give one of them to my brother's girlfriend for xmas as I'm quite skint at the mo but DH thinks I'm being really tight.

No I think that's fine!!!

Just check its not one that she gave you

TheVirginGoober · 15/12/2008 21:14

Do it she'll never know.

SueW · 15/12/2008 21:14

Next time don't tell your DH that's what you're doing?

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 15/12/2008 21:14

of course you should give it to her. Otherwise it's not a 're-gifting' box -it's just a pointless box of crap in the corner.

It's what it's FOR.

moondog · 15/12/2008 21:14

God, absolutely.
If your dh thinks it's mad, tell him to go and get her something.

squeaver · 15/12/2008 21:14

No problem with that at all.

schneebly · 15/12/2008 21:14

fine IMO

HostessWithTheMostest · 15/12/2008 21:14

I don't bother spending out much on my brother's girlfriends until they've been around for at least a year.
Regifting is perfectly sensible.

YaddaYaddaYadda · 15/12/2008 21:15

Thanks! She doesn't know the friend who gave it to me so I'm sure she won't realise...

Do you like her?

If so - stop being a tightwad. She might end up a permanent part of your family.

On the other hand if there's bad feeling between you then feel free to express your feelings with a crap gift. Or nothing. I'm not giving my poisonous SIL anything. Not a card or present, or even a welcoming smile. It's claws out this year I've decided.

moondog · 15/12/2008 21:15

It's not necessarily tight to pass stuff on.
I've passed on a beautiful pair of brand new boots that were too small for my dd.

Tidey · 15/12/2008 21:18

Nothing wrong with that at all. I'm giving BIL's wife a handbag: My sister was given it and didn't like it, she gave it to me in case I knew anyone who would. It's economical and if you have something there she'll like, there's not a problem.

Cheekster · 15/12/2008 21:19

I do this the time, I say go ahead and do it!

Just be warned, last year I gave my dad's girlfriend a box of smellies and inside it was a gift tag that had been written to me which Id never noticed - oops!

FrostytheSurfmum · 15/12/2008 21:20

It's not being tight and it's not about liking her or otherwise. Why spend money when you don't need to? And why is it a crap gift? Just because it isn't something that Yadda was able to use, doesn't mean that someone else won't think it's lovely.

I do this, and always work on the basis that if it's something I think they would like, and something I would choose for them then I go ahead.

SalLikesEggnogUnderMistletoe · 15/12/2008 21:21

As long as it's something nice, I can't see a problem with it. To throw a perfectly nice present away just because you can't use it - now that would be unreasonable.

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 21:22

I think it's a bit tight meself. But I don't know how skint you are.

I pass on stuff I don't like/want to the various tombolas and raffles that schools and local clubs run.

andyrobo237 · 15/12/2008 21:22

Perfectly fine to me - as long as it is decent enough to give as a gift. Any present is worth it if a little thought has come into it - can you not spend a couple of pounds and get something to go with it?

Also agree dont tell DH it came from the re-giftingbox - my DH would not have a clue!!

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 21:28

why would men not understand the concept?

sweetcat · 15/12/2008 21:30

Not tight at all, as long as she never knows, it's not a problem. Recycling at it's best

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 21:33

my dad would understand 'cause he is tight
