AIBU to think that by the age of 26 I should have mastered how to wash up without getting soaked?

And without soaking the kitchen floor as well?

Is it a talent you are born with or one you can learn. Cos I'm missing it somehow.

YABVU. I'm 11 years further down life's lane than you and I can't manage it either!

A soaked tummy when washing up, is a sign, you will have a drunken husband, I don't make'em up, just old wives tales

loobeylou · 15/12/2008 15:46

ROFL - I always get a wet ring round me middle too!
(12 yrs on from OP - just call me granny)

Ebb · 15/12/2008 15:46

Well I definately wasn't born with that talent and haven't mastered the act of 'not washing ones self along with the dishes' aged 34. There is no hope! Sorry!

MerryMadMarg · 15/12/2008 15:47

Me? I want to learn to wash up without breaking the glasses. Seriously, our glass supply needs constant topping up!! I keep hitting the glass on the tap (and walking into doorways, got 20/20 vision but still walk into walls !)

loobeylou · 15/12/2008 15:48

Actually, I've been thinking and I have decided that if you don't get wet round the middle, you aren't washing up vigourously enough. Therefore it is a sign of an expert washer-upper.

TheChristmasArmadillo · 15/12/2008 15:48

glad to see I'm not the only one.

Managing to clean the shower and remain dry is another one that defeats me (tip: don't switch on while you are under it - something I have yet to remember).

Also walking without falling over.

I'm nearly 40 and i still do that .

I have also been known to catch my stomach and burn mysely while ironing when pregnant .

TinselianAstra · 15/12/2008 15:54

I get wet too, but I'm only 24 so I was hoping I would grow out of it

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/12/2008 15:55

Me too !!

(and I ironed my own norks when I was sitting down to iron whilst pregnant too - had very embarrassing obstretician's visit thereafter)

Strongly suggest you buy a dishwasher!!

ELMOchristmascountdown · 15/12/2008 15:56

i cant do shower one yet.

but i have taken to wearing apron

and i got a little rubber soaky uppy floor thing for at feet at sink. it stops the running away water turning into a slippy puudle

MerryMadMarg · 15/12/2008 16:00

Ooh, a technical term, I love technical terms!!!

TheChristmasArmadillo · 15/12/2008 18:08

I have a dishwasher but it's not working great atm.

I love the washing up equipment elmo

TipsyFairydifferentID · 15/12/2008 18:09

that was part of the reason we got a dishwasher.

Tee2072 · 15/12/2008 18:10

I'm nearly 40 and have never accomplished this. That is why DH washes up!

WhenFRUITYgotstuckupthechimney · 15/12/2008 18:13

It's those pesky spoons which always move to where the running water is. I get drenched every time, I'm sure they are conspiring against me In fact I think they've made a pact with Anywayup cup lids - They're out to get me I tell you!

asicsgirl · 15/12/2008 20:11

i gave in and now do the washing up in the bath. only trouble is i can't decide - is it ok if the dishes smell of radox, or is it better if i smell of washing up liquid?

WhileShosheWatchedHerFlocks · 15/12/2008 20:15

Waterproof Apron, older than most of you and have never been able to wash up without soaking myself.

So I bought a dishwasher

Wallace · 15/12/2008 20:33

This has made me realise that I don't soak my tummy anymore when washing-up. I always used to.

I wonder if it is because I have grown out of it ( grand old age of 30) or is it since we moved house - different sink dimensions perhaps?

AMIStletoekiss · 15/12/2008 20:42

I'm past 40 and haven't managed to learn this one yet, so I'm afraid there may be no hope... even the few bits and pieces I still do since we got the dishwasher are too much for me not to get drenched.... I bought a nice sensible plastic-covered pinny.... and now I get wet knees instead of a wet tummy
