(for xmas please read Christmas for any pedants out there!)

DS1's 4th birthday party yesterday. Actual birthday on 18th.
Last year only the ils gave him birthday pressies wrapped in xmas paper. He was a nightmare on xmas day because he had thought all the tree pressies were for him, and I wondered if having birthday pressies wrapped in xmas paper had contributed to that. So I hinted that could they please not do it again.

Yesterday mil brought birthday pressie wrapped in inside out xmas paper with a 'merry xmas' gift tag.
SIl gave him a birthday pressie in full on xmas paper with father xmas gift tag.

I gritted my teeth and thanked them graciously cos I am a good compromising kinda dil.

TOday I took the xmas pressies they had also brought with them, and went to put them away till we put the tree up after the birthday.

SIL has wrapped ds1's xmas pressie in plain brown paper and written on it in felt tip
'sorry ran out of xmas wrapping paper'.

!!!

THATS BECAUSE YOU USED IT ON HIS BIRTHDAY PRESENT YOU MUPPET!!!!

(last year I just had to grin and bear it. This year she has a baby's 1st birthday on 6th Jan. xmas wrapping paper is waiting....)

DS will be 4 on the 21st dec... it really gets me when people can't make the effort for him!! I would never wrap his presents in xmas paper becasue i wouldn't do that for DD on her april birthday, so why should i do it to DS??

FIL and step-MIL wind me up getting him the same kind of xmas present as DD, no bday card last year at all (year before was a xmas card with 'happy bday' in it) but yet DD gets a bday card with a tenner in it in april?? (though not that i aprove of money for a 2yo- they could have got her a colouring book and i'd have apreciated the thought much more)....

actually i'm goona leave this thrad now as it riles me!! Have just had this discussion with DH!!

my birthday is in January - just before halfway through - and I didn't get birthday presents, ever, because there was no money left after Christmas. And my dad was the day after so we had to share a cake.

No joint birthdays now. Never. And a cake just for me.

BouncingTinsel · 15/12/2008 18:17

Ds's birthday is on the 27th.. I've also told people very firmly no joint presents.
DH did managed to wrap ds's birthday present from dss in xmas wrapping paper. He says he didn't think we had any.
I BOUGHT 3 FECKING ROLLS OF BIRTHDAY WRAPPING PAPER FROM WOOLIES YOU DAFT SOD!!!!
I've re-wrapped it. I know ds (aged 1yo) will not notice or care but I do. So ner!

my best friend's b/day is 18th dec and I've never had aproblem getting b/day wrapping paper!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 15/12/2008 18:22

I can't understand those of you that say that you can't get birthday paper so close to Christmas.. where on earth do you live? Even my parents who live in the back of beyond have plenty of selection this close to Christmas

DasherDancerPrancerFMVixen · 15/12/2008 18:25

ds's birthday is 23rd. Think it is easier having it just before rather than just after...think a vboxing day birthday must be quite dull

You need to train your friends and rellies very well

in 10 years noone has ever dared give ds a joint xmas/birthday pressie, no xmas cards with ''and a happy birthday as well'' written on...
We don't usually have a prob getting people to come and party as tbh, most parents are grateful to have something to keep the kids occupied that close to xmas...

It is stressful for me though - especially when ds announces pathetically ''can I have a home made cake for my party. DS2 always does...'''

In my case it is not that I can't get any! but I haven't got any!..

I usually end up wrapping DDs present the night before her birthday and only have Christmas paper in the house!.

She doesn't care, she will be 5. I would put money on the fact that she won't notice what paper I used!

I did find a good solution last year. I bought plan coloured christmas paper, so then it isn't either christmas or birthday paper...

DasherDancerPrancerFMVixen · 15/12/2008 18:28

shit! you have just reminded me I need birthday paper!!

A friends DD who has a Christmas birthday has 2 birthdays like the Queen. She has her birthday cards on the day but then on June 25th she has her party and presents. She absolutly loves it as she can have outdoor partys and BBQ's.
