Yes my MIL has come up trumps again.......

On Saturday when the in-laws were visiting us, we were talking about the rubbish on tv lately, when MIL said.....

"You can watch porn on the telly now you know"

No answer from us, just me frowning at her and shaking my head because the dc's were sitting with her!

"It's not hard porn you understand, just soft porn"

Still no answer (just hoping she would drop the subject).

It's on after midnight on channel 5 I think"

No answer (didn't want to draw any more attention to the conversation!)

Discussed this with dh later......his reply..

"She's going mad isn't she! She just wouldn't stop. I kept thinking she would stop, but she just went on and on." A sad, disbelieving shake of the head.

Words defeat me! Am I a bit mad to think this is an entirely inappropriate conversation in front of her grandchildren. God knows what she'll come out with next! Does anyone think that we need to have a word with her?

Dd is 13 and ds is 8.

Dd probably has some idea but frankly I'm not too sure I would want to have to explain porn to ds because Grandma has brought it into the conversation over tea.

And why on earth would she feel she needs to bring up the subject of porn on the tv in front of them. (She's 72 by the way).

Does she think she is being 'cool and happening'?? One of my relies who is 90 likes to shock by describing passages from Trainspotting in graphic detail.

I also don't want to have to go into the differences between hard and soft porn. What kind of things is she watching at her house?????

I ask in seriousness as that is a pretty inaproppriate conversation to be having in front of grandchildren.

psycho - well, my dad has dementia and hasn't come out with anything like this (yet!)

I really don't know about mil. She's certainly nothing like my dad in her behaviour, but there's something not quite right about this.

Bloody hell, they're all coming to me for Christmas Day. Can't wait!!!!!!!!

well, I guess it could effect people in different ways......I have no experience of dementia (thankfully......it is not pleasant for family given what I read), but my mother is mentally ill (schizophrenia) and with mental illness people are not all the same.....they all have different ways of exhibiting symptoms IYGWIM.

sounds like it could be an interesting xmas tho

My 86 yr old nan piped up over xmas dinner a few years ago (she has bad dementia)

Oh Charlee - you have just made me laugh! I can't imagine what you all thought/said.

Think we will have to have a quiet word with her just to see if she realises that it's not an appropriate topic of conversation. If she doesn't realise then I think we'll know the answer.

By the way, this is the same grandma who blabbed to the dc's that dh and I had got them a Nintendo Wii for a surprise Christmas present. Not a surprise any more though!!!! She said it in the loudest stage whisper I've ever heard in my life.

Yes my nan does the loud whispering as well, its awful when your walking behind someone and nan is ''whispering'' 'oh isn't she fat!' very loudly.

I would have a quiet word and see what she says.

Yes except she was a secretary!!!! Mind you I think my Nan worked in the mills - so its probably all Nan Elsies fault She says 'right love me and your Dad are going home now, your Dad hates driving in the dark?, going home, getting settled, drawing the curtains' LOL they are great
