Super nanny has a method, can't think what its called but when she wakes at 5:30 she must stay in her room, she can play with her tpys but must not come out of her room until you say. Idea being she will soon get bored and sleep longer, if not YOU WILL!

I have the same problem.

DD 21 months gets up between 4 and 5am every day. I have given up and now just get into bed with her, we can usually get another hour that way.

hotbot - sympathise completely. My DS is an early riser (0530 -0600) doesn't worry me as when I'm working I need him up at this time to get to the childminders. He went through a stage when he was about the same age as your DD gtting up very early (about 0430) and not settling too well. It was a stage with DS...we just put up with it, let him know we were still here even though we were downstairs and he couldn't see us, and coped (ha) with the very early mornings. Lasted about a couple of months and by the end of it he was so tired he started sleeping better again. Not much help for you I know...being sleep deprived is not my favourite state.

Goldilocks, we tried this with DS but it didn't work at all, all he did was shout at us until we went in to see him (no matter how long we ignored him for!!) He still doesn't like to play in his room by himself.

I have found that since he gave up his afternoon nap he goes down very quickly and sleeps a lot better at night. He's not long turned three. One of the other mums at my childminder has just dropped her two yr olds nap for this exact reason.

Hope things are more settled for you soon.

thanks so much for the comforting words, she will not play by herself - we long resigned ourselves to 5.50, its not too bad as we both work so its nice to have time together on a morning but 4.30 is way too early. i will keep telling myself --its jsut a phase

this has worked brilliantly with our DD 2.1. We keep returning her to bed saying 'bunny sleeping, DD1 sleeping' and she is getting the idea. From 2-3 night wakings and 'getting up' at 5.30-6am we had 8.45am the other day . It is expensive so was a 2nd birthday pressie from GP's but she loves it and 'gets it' which is great
