To think it is far too cold for a toddler to be sat in a stroller with no shoes or socks on?

Okay so I'm being a judgey mare but in town I saw a toddler in a pushchair with bare feet. Admittedly she didn't seem phased by fact but it was freezing! My own pfb was nicely cooking snug in his cosy toes and this poor child must have been frozen. Brrrrrrrrrr!

LOL needmorecoffee - now I have a vision of toddlers in capes, plotting revenge on the evil socks of the world and consigning them to the far flung reaches of outer space where they darn well belong.

We went to New York when it was -12 and the only way to keep gloves on a 10mth old was to put long socks on her hands instead. Worked very well, she kept pulling and pulling with no joy !!!

It was probably me you saw. Ds2 (14 months) will just not keep his shoes and socks on so after a few attempts to put them back on I usually just put them in the change bag to make sure I don't lose them and have to fork out another £26 for new shoes.

YABU and YADBU as you even say the toddler wasn't bothered!

McDreamyingofawhiteXmas · 14/12/2008 13:33

Yes it is but I remember DD being like this. She would not keep socks on, tried all sorts of brands she could get them all off and if I put her in tights she would pull them ad chew them so they were wet! Even now at 5 she prefers to be barefoot given the chance!

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 14/12/2008 13:37

Oh, a thread about my dd2. Yes yes I confess I am a bad mother.

Sympathy to those of you who also try the tights under trousers technique. Tights stretch a lot don't they!?

I thought I'd cracked the shoe and sock removal trick when I bought baby ds a snowsuit. Only he then refused to go in the damn thing and wriggled so hard I couldn't manage it!

What IS it with toddlers and socks and shoes? Is there something in their hindbrain that tells them when we lived in caves wolves or sabre-toothed tigers would eat people wearing socks or something?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 14/12/2008 13:42

I actually saw a baby out in its pushchair in the snow, bare feet, no hat, no gloves and blanket draped over his head. I exchanged that knowing look and smile with the mum as we passed . She had the male version of my dd2. I have no doubt that the baby had shoes, gloves etc in the bag mum was carrying and she had just got fed up of stopping to put them on every two seconds.

I spent £35 on boots for dd2, thinking that this would solve all my problems. There is no way that an 18 month old can work out how to get off lace up boots right? It took her all of half an hour to work it out. They were off before we even left the shopping center.

My baby is also the one that sits nekkid in restaraunts. I don't mind this unless its my place of work. As in, I am out back and a manager comes in and exclaims there is a naked baby trying to stick corn up her nose and the father is just letting her. I didn't dare look

Toddlers have a mind of their own. And nothing we do will stop them. Other mums deserve our sympathy and understanding. Not judgement.

To all mothers who have sock hating monsters like mine, have you tried 'sock ons'? you can get them from jojomamanbebe

They are pretty awesome

McDreamyingofawhiteXmas · 14/12/2008 13:44

I've seen them, they weren't around (or I didn't discover them) 6 years ago. I might try them this time if this one is a sock puller offer!

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 14/12/2008 13:54

Twas my 24m old DS wasn't it. I get comments all the time about no shoes or socks. Sometimes I don't even set off with them on.

I have to say though my DS is very well behaved. He always passes them to me once removed. Manages to keep his hat on though. think it's because after initial battle he forgots about it coz he can't see it.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 14/12/2008 13:58

roffle. Starlight my dd2 also passes me her unwanted shoes/socks/blankets/hats and is polite enough to say 'ta' when I accept them.

ohreindeerwhatamessysleigh · 14/12/2008 14:00

LOL clicked on this thinking it was probably about me.

I have chidren who will not wear hats or gloves and like to remove socks and shoes. Got lots of judgey looks in town today from parents whose little ones were wrapped up in 18 blankets, hats, scarves, snowsuits etc.

FWIW a friend of mine bought those JoJo sock things and her one year old now removes them as well as the socks. After seeing him do that I decided to save my money.
