To expect the babysitter to stay awake?

You pay the sitter, you get home at 11.30pm to find the babysitter in the living room with lights off just waking up.. haven't said anything but this is the first time I have come home to find a sitter having planned for a snooze at some point in the evening.. have a school aged child and one under one yr old. I know babysitting can be boring, but a bit surprised, what's your take on this out of curiousity?

I am quite happy for mine to fall asleep after about 11. As I see it, babysitters are really there to get the kids out if there's a fire, or deal with them if they throw up. It's not like daycare when people need to be on full alert. They generally wake up quick enough if the kids need them.

When I was a teenager I had a regular family where I used to stay the night if they were going to be after about 12.30 because they didn't expect me to stay awake until 3am. If you were at home you would be asleep-I don't see the difference.

If she is in her 20's is it not possible she has been working all day, I know I left the house at 7.30am yesterday and probably would've fallen asleep too!

i would be a bit miffed actually. 11.30 is not late and the fact she had all the lights off shows she had decided to go to sleep rather than drift off iykwim.

if it was 1am and the lights/TV were on and she had just dozed, then no i would not mind.
