DH takes everything litrally and I'm so annoyed at him

We went to view a house today and the current owner told us where everything was and then said "I'll stay here while you have a look around. So, just knock yourselves out."

DH then shrugged his shoulders and charged at the wall headfirst, litrally knocking himself out.

The owner was so shocked he dropped his cup of tea, rushed over to pick DH up and we then had to sit there in his living room for 10 minutes until DH came around. So embarrassing and now not only do we have 0 chance of getting this house (as the owner thinks we're nuts) but we also have to pay to have his carpet cleaned.

DH said he genuinly misunderstood. Am I being too hard on him? I mean, why would he ask us to litrally hurt ourselves?

This is NO LAUGHING MATTER. In Uni my DH was famous for being Mr Literal. He was campaigning for a girl to be voted onto the Students Union. When asked by a fellow student "where is Lara we haven't seen her canvassing in ages. Is she dead? " His response was an earnest "No, no, honestly she is fine. Just very busy"

Luckily I have been training him in the ways of sarcasm and irony for the last 11 years and he appears to have got it. Most of the time.
