to not want a staffie dog (or actually, any dog) in the nursery playground?

Preschool attached to primary school, family have new pedigree dog which is being shown off.

I am a dog person but am always wary of these kind of breeds, school has a no dogs in playground rule but family seem to think their staffie is the exception to this rule.

It would make me nervous, but I don't like dogs, which makes me slightly biased.

SammyK · 10/12/2008 13:16

See I do like dogs, but don't think they should be in a preschool playground with hyper 3 and 4 year olds and a handful if toddlers!

Most schools have a no dogs rule, and a word with the staff should ensure that the proud owners are reminded of it.

JLo2 · 10/12/2008 13:16

YANBU I love dogs but, lots of young children are frightened of dogs. I think you need to have a word with the staff about it so they can talk to the dog owners.

OhLITTLEFISHofBethlehem · 10/12/2008 13:18

No dogs on the playground. Absolutely not. Never. Ever.

yanbu.but im sure youll get flamed on thread.this subject usually ends in arguement.
i love dogs but dont think its unreasonable to not want them in playground.any kind of dog!

I agree, we were in dewsbury park on sunday (naming it in case any one uses it) only us in with dd when this scroaty couple walked in with two staffies, neither on a lead, with two dc's. dog ran over t us and i shouted 'away' and shouted over 'would you mind putting your dogs on alead pleasde its a childrens play area and they shouldn't be here' to which thick sarky owner went 'oh, is it' i replied that yes it was and it cleary stated on the gate dogs weren't allowed. he did put one on lead and held one and later left the play area but it made my blood boil. i don't care how friendly or well trained they ar: in childrens areas or whger there are esp. young kids, keep them onleads. my parents always had dogs so i'm aware of lookinhg after them etc and this isn't being unreasonable.

bonnycat · 10/12/2008 13:36

It doesnt matter what kind of dog it was,it should not have been in the playground-YANBU.

grumblingirl · 10/12/2008 13:38

Yanbu. I find it weird that they're so proud of their dog they take it to school

A couple stand at ds1's school gate everyday with a massive barky dog that looks like a wolf. I literally have to run past it as both ds's are terrified and the owners never look like they've got full control of it.

tessofthedurbervilles · 10/12/2008 13:47

I have a big dog who just wants to play with kids - she doesn't understand that kids are scared of her so I keep the two apart unless kids are ok and all are supervised....although I adore dogs you never know so I think you are not being unreasonable.

LilMatchGirlInVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2008 13:50

I don't think any dogs should be at schools. I get quite annoyed that one parent walks their dog to the school and ties him to the gate every bloody day.

cheeseandsproutssarnie · 11/12/2008 12:35

had to laugh at school yesterday after reading this.2 dogs tied outside gate barking at a 3rd dog someone.adults and children jumping.but made me think of mn.

DECKmuppetWITHBOUGHSOFHOLLY · 11/12/2008 12:42

I have 2 dogs and I would hate this. We have a parent who brings her large 'barky' dog and stands right by the door when we collect our dc. I saw it lunge forward and moan bark at a child who had just come out of the door and the child (as would I) was visibly shocked, flinched and stepped back.

Dogs shouldn't be near the school playground.
