I can't be bothered. I think they're a waste of time and space. I LOVE Christmas, I just can't be doing with cards.

That would be hate doing it not going it!

MrsMattie · 09/12/2008 14:32

I love 'em. love receiving them, so always send them, too.

nickytinseltimes · 09/12/2008 14:32

Oh special ones?
They are the pits aren't they?
We stopped that a few years back.

DaphneMoon · 09/12/2008 14:34

Wish I had the nerve to. The mark up on them must be incredible. They only cost pence to make, some of them are £4.00 each!!!!

nickytinseltimes · 09/12/2008 14:35

Just do it Daphne!
We did and everyone else followed. they were glad we had stopped the madness.
We do send them nice ones, but from a pack out of markies or somewhere.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/12/2008 14:40

This year I've bought a whole load of these which I'll be posting with a short note.

Oooooh, Merry Christmas to you too, Nicky!

nickytinseltimes · 09/12/2008 14:42

The thing is, I actually really love Christmas!?

It's just those fecking cards.

MrsMattie · 09/12/2008 14:46

I love those!@DevilPrimark

Wicked idea!

DaphneMoon · 09/12/2008 14:48

Hey if it was up to me I would only buy my kids presents. I am getting a bit fed of buying my Nephews presents when they are 27yo ! I don't even get a card off them!

Gateau · 09/12/2008 14:49

Oh get in the spirit everyone. You don't have to spend loads on people; it's only meant to be a little gesture, after all!

Boco · 09/12/2008 14:50

Yer All Being VU, you must buy the mn christmas cards at once!

MrsMattie · 09/12/2008 14:50

We've got a 'only under 16s get presents' rule in our family. We started it a couple of years ago. The relief everyone felt the first year we did it was enormous. No more dashing around Boots buying crappy 3 for 2 toiletries for Aunty Flo, or stressing about what to buy your cool 19 yr old nephew!

piscesmoon · 09/12/2008 16:54

We only get presents for the under 18s. I would much prefer cutting out the presents than the cards.

Spidermama · 09/12/2008 19:28

MrsMattie some of my family has tried to limit presents to kids, but other members are quite put out and enjoy buying and receiving. It's very difficult.

How do feel about those cards with the family photo on the front? I've just got one.

piscesmoon · 09/12/2008 19:46

I think it is American-at least I only have an American friend that does it.

starbear · 09/12/2008 19:49

Yes, spot-on it was sent by an American friend. So do you do think it would be really naff for me to have them next year?

piscesmoon · 09/12/2008 19:51

Probably starbear!

starbear · 09/12/2008 19:54

...

DocBunches · 09/12/2008 20:10

YANBU at all, imho.

I've decided that I'm only sending Ecards or Emails this year (including to close family) and will send proper cards to people if I don't have their Email address, which is a grand total of about 6 - yippee!!!

I also like Xmas, but I just think it's a completely pointless ritual.

DasherDancerPrancerFMVixen · 09/12/2008 20:11

I sent around 50 last year. I cannot afford 50 stamps this year so have also decided to just not bother and I bet noone even notices

UnquietDad · 09/12/2008 20:11

I hate the bastard things too. One year we didn't do it and donated to local hospital instead.

Most people were fine. My mother was (Is there an emoticon for "pursed lips"? There should be.)

MrsSeanBean · 10/12/2008 13:47

Cards for people you see/ talk to everyday, such as colleagues, are a bit ridiculous IMO.

I'm having a credit crunch Christmas and scaling back to people I actiually like but don't see for a long period of tume.

DH and I have never sent cards to each other anyway. I can think of better things to spend a fiver on than a padded over- sentimental wodge of environmentally unfriendly rhyming crap.
