I made my first attempt at a 'modelled' cake today. Is a chocolate sponge in the shape of a car (back view)

It took me a good few hours and I tried really hard to make it look good for him.

I brough it out to him, his best mate who is staying and his gf, and what do you think his reaction was?

Yep, thats usually how my DH would show his appreciation. To eat as much as he can in one mouthful , followed by 'well done, that was really good.'

smartiejakeonachristmascake · 07/12/2008 20:13

I hate that. I make lots of cakes. (V. impressed with your car!BTW)

People admire them. They say "Oh you are so clever it must have taken you hours let's have a piece of cake!"

GRRRRRR

I'm sure Da Vinci didn't have to put up with people eating his works of art!

ja9ladiesdancing · 07/12/2008 20:14

i had a cake when i was younger that we were so pleased with, couldn't bear to cut. when we finally did it had gone mouldy inside - lol!

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 20:16

I know! How very dare he eat it.

I knew you would all understand.

He did look a bit shocked when I did a slo-mo
'Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo'

He didn't even take a corner, or a removeable wheel, he chopped the entire bonnet off.

And then he gouged a hole in the roof.

how unthoughtful....at least you managed to take a pic before he destroyed it....well done!!

Sidge · 07/12/2008 20:47

He ate his birthday cake???

Dear god. Better phone Relate in the morning.

Cool cake by the way.

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 20:49

I had the foresight to take the picture before letting him anywhere near it.
He has previous for eating my cooking.

It's got windscreen wipers and everything!! That is so cool!!!

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 07/12/2008 20:50

What a crap cake

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 07/12/2008 20:51

oh sod off dingdong.

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 20:52

You are quite right dingdong. I asked DH if anything was wrong with it and he said
1- There isn't enough of it.
2- I forgot the reverse lights

So yes, it is crap

OP posts:
dingdongmerrilyonpie · 07/12/2008 20:54

Chequer!!!!!!

I was just trying to make Chirpy laugh!!! If someone did that to me on a thread I'd laugh my tits off.

Oh hang on, I think they already did.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 07/12/2008 20:56

Chirpy, where did you get the mould from?

jempurd · 07/12/2008 20:58

I have to say this is the funniest thread I have ever seen. I am wiping the tears from my eyes as I type!

Aitch · 07/12/2008 20:58

you know what men are like, always desperate to get under the bonnet...

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 21:01

(not offended dingdong, I knew where you were coming from)

Not a mold, I made 2 sponges, one in a turkey roasting tray and one in a square baking tray and cut and stuck them.

Glad my pain is amusing to you jempurd, you unfeeling creature

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 21:03

Aitch. Nice! Dh is now amused again by thread (after being a bit at you all thinking he would have laughed at it, he (says) he is really hurt)

TinselianAstra · 07/12/2008 21:04

Fantastic cake-shaping (and I especially like the windscreen wipers), but why is it grey? Is that just the picture, or does he have a grey car?

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 21:06

(shhhh Tinselian, it was meant to be silver but I used too much black)

OP posts:
jempurd · 07/12/2008 21:06

hy dont get me wrong I understand that you are hurting.
In the way I understand that someone who just ran into a closed patio door is hurting when I can't hold back the laughter!

My dh just asked if you rolled the car a few times before it reached the table

I actually think it's pretty good, it obviously took a long time. But I still can't stop laughig. 'Angry armadillo' actually made me snort!

Sorry

ChirpyGrinch · 07/12/2008 21:09

ooh, yes, I did mean to comment on teh 'angry Amradillo'.
Made me snort wine.

Jempurd - I see your 'closed patio door' and raise you 'DH being kicked in the nuts by a DD when tickling them'

BellaNoir · 07/12/2008 23:02

I showed my DH , he was very impressed and it looked like a Porsche :-)

Now I'll be needing to make a posh cake for his b'day.

Really fab.
