I assumed that there would be evening performances as there have been in previous years, but not this time. I therefore haven't any holiday from work I can take. I asked my boss if I could take the 2 mornings off (2 different schools, DD1 is Yr2, DD2 & DSD are Reception) anyway and she has said no

Meanie!

aGalChangedHerName · 05/12/2008 14:06

It's crap isn't it? I have missed my ds's plays at school years ago.

I am a CM and we are not allowed to take pre schoolers with us to the play. Can never get the day off

I now have a friend who looks after the mindees while i go so wont be missing the dd's plays when they go to school!!

bratnav · 05/12/2008 14:09

I am sooo unhappy, they have already been really shitty about me having 2 days off as DD2 & DSD were ill.

I know that in the scheme of things it will look small, but it's their 1st play for DD2 & DSD

I think that is disgusting.

I am an employer and I know it doesn't help you but I ensure that staff can go to their children when they need to. They simply put the hours in elsewhere, regardless of what leave they have. I can't pay sick pay to them though, but they can make up time etc..

In fact I left a job 4 years ago when I had a late miscarriage and they were being very difficult about it - just on principle.

What would happen if you said well it's very important to me so I am going and take a mornings pay??

bratnav · 05/12/2008 14:28

Still in probation period so would probably be sacked! Bloody tempted anyway

Annoys me. You can't get that time back and yet you can work whenever. The whole company won't come to a stand still - but they just don't get it.
She sounds a right cow (sorry mrs boss but you do!)

Come and work for us bratnav!

bratnav · 05/12/2008 14:50

Are you near Bristol, cos if you are I'll get my coat!

None of the others on my team including my boss have DCs, this causes a huge problem, to them it is just a pathetic kiddy thing, why on earth would I be upset

OP posts:
blueheather · 05/12/2008 15:34

I can honestly sympathise. I was the only one who had kids too and it annoyed me cos I would work so hard.

Whilst we are Mum's we also are happy to work very hard and get on. I got so fed up in my office job when they wouldn't cut me any slack that I started Mumsnet!and did nothing, lost interest and needed to workfor myself, so that was that and I left.

I was such a massive poster though in the early mumsnet days. Then disappeared and came back with a new identity!

What do you do by the way? Not in bristol but am looking for new places to put our service all the time.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/12/2008 15:49

aww your company is mean - s there anyway you can work from homethat day, or swap days if you are part time?

our school is great and gives dates for whole year in sept - so can plan nat play etc - does seem unfair that they dont have an evening show

but

then again many children in reception/years 1 are in bed at 7pm and think an evening performance is too late for them

bratnav · 05/12/2008 16:10

Marketing, any good????

loobeylou · 05/12/2008 16:50

I am a SAHM but aren't parents entitled to x amount of UNPAID leave for things to do with their DC. If it was a DC hospital appointment, they would be more obliging, yes?

Can't you remember a long overdue smear/dental appointment or something the same morning??

Do not take a sickie if they know what day you wanted off, they will be less sympathetic next time you or DC ARE REALLY ill

piscesmoon · 05/12/2008 16:55

Teachers can never get time off to see their own DCs.

bratnav · 05/12/2008 16:57

Ah but at least they get the holidays off with them

blueheather · 05/12/2008 16:57

In the future yes I will need another marketing body but it won't solve your immediate worry.
I'm marketing too, but the business is accountancy
