To ask the parents before lending this book to their son?

A while ago I promised DS's friend that he could borrow a book when we'd read it. However, after reading it, I'm not 100% sure the parents will be ok with him reading it. Its a samurai book and their family is very involved with martial arts so I'm assuming they'll be ok with it but it IS very violent. People get stabbed, heads get chopped off, talk of suicide etc...and the lad is only 8.

I've since been called "precious" for making a big deal out of it so AIBU to just have a quick word with the parents before lending it? I'm not trying to be a drama queen but he is only 8.

Of course you're not being unreasonable - having a quick word is not making a big deal out of it, anyway. Follow your instincts

I would have a quick word, It is more violent than you first reaised and I am sure they will appreciate your courtesy

By the way MrsSnape what is the book called? Dh is quite into samurai

nymphadora · 05/12/2008 10:52

No I wouldn't mind if you asked me.

It's called "Young Samurai: Way of the Warrior".

It's about a young English lad that gets trapped in Japan and ends up involved with Samurai etc...

It is a really good book, I enjoyed it as did DS1 (10). I think its more geared towards teens than little kids though. Your DH would probably like it waistband, it has lots of interesting facts about the whole Japanese 'old' empire, samurai, ninja, culture etc...
